First off, a huge shout out to the Lady Tigers for willingly switching venues, time and format to allow the Lady Eagles to honor their seniors on their home court. True class act from top to bottom.

 

On to the game: Lady Eagles took the early lead and extended it out to double digits forcing multiple turnovers early as the press really bothered the Lady Tigers. A combination of substitutions, change of press format and the Lady Tigers settling in allowed them to claw their way back into this one and actually take the lead late in the 4th.

 

A questionable call with time winding down tied the game at 50 following the free throws. Tiger's ball, the short jumper is missed and Anna Clephane makes what can only be described as a monster acrobatic "that ball is (insert lady like expletive) mine" rebound and rockets up the court. Timeout called with just over 3 seconds on the clock.

 

On the following inbounds play Kallmeyer is able to sneak in for the game winning layup at the buzzer.

 

This game saw outstanding performances for the Lady Eagles by Trempe, Brennan and Stapleton who combined for multiple 3's on the night.

 

Tonight also saw the return of Dant for the first half who picked up where she left off as the beast under the boards.

 

Now before anyone jumps me about ref cheating (read the Holmes/CC post)....blah blah blah. I'll explain. With time winding down, Beechwood's Olivia Stokes makes a solid drive to the basket. Kallmeyer, out of position makes reach in to knock the ball out of the dribbling hand and Stokes went down. It was clearly a reach and the whole crowd knew it. But Kallmeyer was also hit with an intentional as well which was absurd. Of course what had the crowd so upset was the timing of the call could have changed the outcome of the game. That said Kallmeyer was the first to Stokes' side to help her up.

Again a huge shout out to the Lady Tigers, and best of luck to both teams as they head into the District Tournament next week.

Correction to the foul at the end. That foul was on Stapelton for pushing the girl once she went past her. It was a the correct call

Reach in call was missed/no call, as I believe refs were allowing players to control the game. 2 hands to the lower back by different player sent girl to floor. Tough to complain when refs actually got together on this call, which doesn't happen often.

 

Where the refs messed up was who they allowed to shoot the FTs for the injured player. The girl who shot was already in the game. Player who subbed in for injured player should have shot FTs.

 

Confirmed this was handled incorrectly after game with refs for boys game

Awesome thing for the Tigers to do! What a great game down to the the wire. Can't help but wonder what the outcome would have been if Beechwood was on their home court.

And on the one occasion I comment before watching the tape I get it wrong........lesson learned. My apologies to the referees, as you are absolutely correct it was on Stapleton with the push and the reach was missed.

 

Whether the outcome would have been different at Beechwoods home court I couldn't say. From a performance standpoint and having watched several of the Tigers players over the years I would have to say that other than for some rust in the early part of the game they played very well and despite the loss look poised to make some noise in the district race.
