Mustang Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 Mustangs survive Lloyd 72-69 in overtime in Erlanger. Mustangs struggled to finish on shots and hit free-throws through a first half that saw the Juggernauts lead 28-27 at the half. Lloyd pushed out to a six point lead at 38-32 when Brossart's Gabe Roberts scored three consecutive buckets with one being a 3-pointer to keep the Mustangs in it and close the gap to three at 40-37 after three periods. At that point the Mustangs were shooting 6 of 15 from the free-throw line. The Mustangs improved dramatically at the line in the fourth period hitting on 8 of 9 attempts which contributed to a 19 point quarter, tying the game at 56's and forcing overtime. In the extra frame Brossrt outscored the Juggs 16-13, largely by connecting on 8 of 9 again, to finish with 22 of 33 on the night and win the game 72-69. Junior Jake Zai led the Mustangs with a career high 20 points, and was joined in double-figures by Gabe Roberts with 15, Jon Zink with 14, and Jackson Crawford (the Joe Lay and Sons POW) and Spencer Hackworth putting up 10 apiece. Sterling Hamilton led the Juggs with 16 while Lashun Townsend scored 15 and Elijah Jouett 13. The Mustangs improve to 14-10 which guarantees the Mustangs a winning season and extends our streak of non-losing seasons to 22 years. The Juggs drop to 10-18 and await St. Henry in next week's district tournament. THe Mustangs JVs defeated Lloyd to caputre the NKAC DIvision II championship. Their only conference loss was to Holmes, who was defeated by Lloyd and NCC. Brossart and Highlands defeated the Thoroughbreds. The Mustangs will wrap up the regular season with a scheduled trip up the AA Highway to challenge the Mason County Royals on Friday night.
