School assemblies? That would not even compare to having a senior night. Senior night is the one night a student athlete looks forward to.

Obviously this isn't the ONLY game they look forward to, but this game has a lot of meaning to them. Playing your last game ever at home is huge and very bittersweet. It is just one of the highlights every athlete will remember. It can be one of the best nights of their careers.

 

Some senios get limited minutes, and by having senior night. You honor them and they get to start and play more! It has so much emphasis to (most) student athletes!

What really sucks about not having a senior night is the teams that 1.) Don't have a chance at winning first round of district, and 2.) Play district tournament away from home. Getting senior night canceled with these circumstances IMO would crush those who really look forward to having a "true" senior night. Sure you could honor the seniors at a banquet or have the PA announcer recognize them before the game, but if it isn't at home in front of a traditionally large crowd (consisting of friends and family of the seniors) then it wouldn't mean near as much to them.

I mean, really? Does the lack of a Senior Night somehow devalue their four (or more) years of contributions to the program?

 

If nothing else, they can always share that fact with their fellow seniors.

I get that, to a degree. But you're being overly dramatic. A great kid who has poured years into a program is not going to go out and be a junkie over the disappointment of not having his Senior Night.
