Coach of the Year- Devin Duvall, Owen County

Posted
I would have given COY to the guy at Oldham. He has that team winning and from what I hear, he isn't a PE teacher either.

What does being a PE teacher have to do with anything?

Most coaches are PE teachers and nothing against that one bit. The norm is that they can plan and scout most of the day. Not only is this guy coaching great but a great educator teaching honor classes all day. Hey just giving the guy some love for coaching a pretty darn good team. BTW, I don't even know the guy.

I understand where you are coming from but I would hardly call that the norm. Honestly, I find it a bit insulting to the profession.

Come on small schools. Oldham Co. 22-4 played big time schedule (not Owen), replaced 4 out 5 starters. Coach Z should have been coach of year hands down.

1) I'm not sure that most coaches are PE teachers.

2) I'm not a PE teacher, but I do know that PE teachers have as much down time during the day as every other teacher in the building, usually one planning period.

3) I think your notion of what a PE teacher is very outdated.

4) Your statement basically said that Duvall doesn't take his profession as a PE teacher seriously.

Absolutely. PE teachers have a curriculum to follow and standards to meet...just as any other teacher. This curriculum not only includes the physical education but health and wellness. I hardly doubt Duvall or any other PE teacher/coach sat and scouted all day, all season while his/her 25-30 students played dodgeball unsupervised.
