In a press release issued on Tuesday Brossart High School Athletic Director Adam Franzen, he announced that longtime head boys soccer coach, Brian Goller was stepping down after 21 years. In that same statment he also announced that Ryan Schaeffer would be taking over the reins of the program.

 

The Press Release reads:

 

BBHS boys soccer coach Brian Goller announced today that he is stepping down after 21 seasons as head coach. During Coach Goller’s tenure he compiled a record of 259-148-17. This includes two All “A” State Titles, one All “A” State Runner-up, two 10th Region Titles, and three District titles. Coach Goller will remain with the Bishop Brossart community as teacher, student council moderator, and intramural sports director. Coach Goller cites wanting to spend more time with his family as the reason for stepping down.

 

Coach Goller leaves our boys soccer program at an extremely high level. We are also excited to announce that Ryan Schaeffer will be replacing Brian Goller as the head coach. Ryan comes to Bishop Brossart with a tremendous coaching and playing background. Ryan is a graduate of St. Henry High School. He went on to play at NKU where he was named all-conference in 1995. He then went on to be an assistant coach at NKU for three years from 1996-1999. From 2001-2003 he was the head coach at St. Henry District High School where his teams won two regional titles and one All “A” state title. Ryan is married to 1994 BBHS grad Jamie Mader Schaeffer and they have three children all attending St. Mary’s grade school, Tyler 5th grade, Avery 3rd grade, and Mia 3 year old preschool. Ryan currently works for Darling Ingredients Inc. (formerly Griffin Industries) as a Human Resources Manager.

 

Please join us on Wednesday, February 11th at 7 pm in Hegenauer Hall to thank Coach Goller for his years of service and dedication to the boy’s soccer program. Coach Schaeffer will be introduced at that time and will meet with the returning players. All are welcome to attend and thank Coach Brian Goller.

Just my opinion, but he has to go down as one of the best soccer coaches in NKY high school history. Heck, even in the state. How many coaches can say they stayed at the same program for 21 years and had the success that he has had. He did it all with a small school none the less. Congrats to Coach Goller on an outstanding coaching career. I don't think he realizes how much influence he had on so many young men, that is what made him such a great coach.

What a great coach he was, before he went to BB I was fortunate enough to play for him the year he helped at HC. He did wonderful things at BB at has left that program in good hands.

Congratulations on Coach Goller for a great 21 years at Brossart! Good luck in future endeavors.

In my personal opinion Brian represents everything admirable in the coaching profession. He has built a program that has sustained itself for all these years. He has done it with homegrown kids, has taken the strong years with the lean years, never gets too high, and accepts setbacks, regardless of how large, in stride as part of the whole. Even though Hall of Fame acclimations, etc., have come his way, it has never been about him and always about his players and his teams.

 

Players love playing for him and they come back.

 

While recently attending the Bluejay Classic basketball tournament at our feeder, St. Joe, Cold Spring, shaking hands with parents and talking to the players, the topic often turned to soccer and what a fine program that we have, and what a wonderful guy Coach Goller is.

 

All good things must come to an end, and Brian, whose son Mark graduates this spring, wanted to now spend time watching his daughter play.

 

Congratulations to our AD Adam Franzen for making a first-class hire in Ryan Schaeffer, a coach who will continue the legacy that Brian has established and a man who is passionate about the game. While we will miss Brian Goller, we welcome Coach Schaeffer.

A successful student-athlete must maintain balance on a three-legged stool, keeping their parents, teacher and coach all happy at the same time. If there is not balance, or if any of those relationships falter, the stool wobbles. Because Mr. Goller wore all three hats at the same time, he "got it" better than any coach-teacher-parent I've encountered. Excellence was demanded in each relationship, but not at the expense of another.

Didn't know him personally but over the last 4 years I've seen his team's play Several times. I always enjoyed watching them play. His teams always defended every square inch of the pitch.His players never took plays off. Total team effort.
