I mean no disrespect. Truly I don't. And I understand T's defensive minded philosophy. I know what Dieudonne and Hicks averaged, and they weren't much more than Spalding has averaged. So, I fully get your point.

One of the stats that I prefer when comparing how well a player is scoring for his team is Points/shot taken which highlights how efficient a player is over volume scoring. Not in every case, but it can be a really good comparison in evaluating the scoring capabilities of players on different teams. The PPG stat can be misleading because many of the higher PPG scorers play on teams where they have the green light shooting 20 plus times in a game. Maybe the coach prefers them taking a majority of the shots or their teammates are simply not that good at scoring.

 

Contrast that with a balanced team made up of multiple scoring threats and you simply will not have a single high scoring player. If I am the coach, I prefer the multiple threat scoring team for several reasons, including the fact that players tend to be more happy playing on a team that one guy is not shooting the majority of the time.

 

It would be interesting to see those stats side by side when presented.
