Raiderbback04 Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 We were surprised to get this one in - congrats to the ground crew. A kiss your sister affair ending with bad base running by Ryle followed by a Helen Keller special on an obvious non-tag play at the plate where the Raider was called out yet clearly not tagged. What a bonehead call! NC is lucky to get out of there with a tie. NC ace Jared Harris started for the Breds and went 4 and not sure of who relieved. Giovanni Devita went 4 and was followed by JC Collins on the hill for Ryle. I would guess NC had about 4 hits and 3 errors. Ryle probably had 7 hits and 2 errors. Vince Murray scorched a couple of shots for the Raiders and Bueter and another player doubled for NC. Both look like capable teams with some early season mistakes, especially 3 baserunning blunders by Ryle.

Picture this...runner slides across the plate, ball still on its way from right field as the Breds catcher jumps and fully extends to field the high throw. His mit is probably 8 feet in the air as his legs are taken out by the runner on the slide. Runners sliding momentem is over, catcher swings the mit down and tags him on the helmet and then those famous words "SHOW ME THE BALL"...either because blue has never seen a baseball close up before or he had no ideal where the ball was on this play....in either case...blue did not have a clue. QUESTION FANS- If he tags him on the helmet(after he acosses the plate) where would you suppose his the runners feet would be?
buckman41ss Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 What no lights.....doesnt the soccer field have lights?:irked:
Crossbar Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 If it was at NCC... then they have no home soccer field. Ryle's field does have lights.
Raiderbback04 Posted March 29, 2006 Author Posted March 29, 2006 Unfortunately, Ryle's field does not have lights. At least the umpires let the boys play til it truly was too dark to continue. The umps did a great job for both teams except for the one unexplainable call that cost us a run at the plate.
Diamond Dandy Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 It was encouraging to see Coach Roesel send Devita to the hill, first game back after Tommy John surgery and G did a good job. It was also encouraging to see rookie J C Collins get his first varsity start, he too did a good job. G wags & Gutty executed a beatiful play for the go ahead run but we really have to work on the base running. I am sure that will come around.

I personally think it is sad that kids in high school are having to undergo Tommy John Surgery. I was at a basketball tournament at Walton last Spring and talked to a couple baseballers who were helping out and they mentioned they had 2 kids on their high school team that had that procedure done as well. How many games are these kids playing year round?
cshs81 Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 Ryle has a 2-game called-for-darkness steak going.

How many games are these kids playing year round? I agree, the kids arm is more imporntant than a win...but in Devita's case, he was not overpitched. He thew a few games, but from what I understand, this is an injury that can hit at any time, with no soreness or warning and I personaly witnesses a little catcher do it on a throw down in between innings. Most of these kids will play 90 to 100 games from March to November but on average only pitch once a week.
