Where was her offer of a scholarship ? Emily Queen was offered one from Western after the Championship game and Terry wasn't both great players both well deserving of the offer . In my oppinion Terry was the best player in the state tournament.

I didn't see any of the state tournament. I know quite a few people that have seen Laura Terry play (and they know basketball) that say she should play D-I.

 

No college coach is going to offer someone a scholarship based on one tournament, but with the numbers she put up, I'm sure there are schools that know about her now, that might not have before.

Both Laura Terry and Emily Queen have been closely followed by college coaches and recruiters this season. Western's pursuit of Emily began long before the state tournament. Interest in Laura has been building all season. However, from all indications, the number of suitors has increased significantly in the past few days. Her outstanding play was not limited to the state tournament.

 

This was my first visit to Bowling Green and to the Diddle Arena (aptly named after the legendary coach, Uncle Ed Diddle). Western has a fine athletic facility and, more important, an impressive campus with a fine array of academic offerings. I have always grouped Western with Morehead and Eastern since all, with Murray, are regional universities. I was obviously underestimating WKU both in athletics and in academics.

For the record...

 

Queen's offer came in December after the Owensboro Tournament. While Emily and her family have maintained contact with Coach Cowles, they simply have been unable to schedule a trip to Bowling Green before this past weekend.

 

As for Terry...trust me...she has no need to worry. Great job, Laura!!

Additionally...

 

If records in the Diddle program are accurate, Laura Terry now holds the record for 3 pt shots made during a championship final (6)...and Emily Queen ranks 4th among tournament rebound leaders (56).

It truly amazes me just how much Laura Terry has improved since the 1st day I saw her step onto the basketball court at "The Stew". She has made herself into one of the best players to ever come out of this area. She will make some college coach very happy in the near future. Congratulations Laura on a great season and tournament. :thumb:

Like Himmelfarb stated Laura will get her offers very soon. I believe there are some schools that would like to package her and Queen and who could blame them.

 

College coaches better start recruiting Emily's nephew right now. He is 1 day and I'm sure both of his grandfathers have tried to put a ball in his hands. Plus he is already 5'2".

I would rather evaluate a player for 4 games in the state tournament ,with the degree of competition and pressure ,than 20 games during most teams regular season

I agree, that seeing a player in that pressure cooker gives someone a good look at a player, but four games isn't much to go on. I will always remember watching Mike Helton at Morehead, in the 16th Region tournament. He literally put Fairview on his back, and if that was all you saw of him, you'd swear he should be playing in the NBA today.

 

No slight intended to Helton, as he was an excellent guard, who had a fine senior season for Fairview. That three game tourny in Morehead though, was something to behold. He was absolutely incredible.

 

As for Terry, as I said before - I haven't seen her play, but relying on those that have (and that know the game), she will be playing on some college hardwood as soon as she moves that tassle from one side of the mortarboard to the other.

 

Congrats to both Terry and Queen. It's no coincidence that both of these young ladies are going to get an education for substantially less than the average Joe (or Jane, in this case).
