Campbell, Augusta fall and bounce back

Three 10th Region teams entered last week's action undefeated and two of them ended the week with a blemish. Augusta got its first loss out of the way on Monday night in a trip to Falmouth. Pendleton County utilized a 19-7 run to end the first half up 14 points. The Panthers rallied and got to within 3 in the third quarter, but could not get any closer and the Cats came away with a 78-70 win. Junior forward Camryn Snapp had 27 points & 8 rebounds in the loss. Five nights later, Jason Hinson's club battled Scott in the Mike Murphy Classic at Mason County. The Eagles jumped out to a 29-14 lead before Augusta clawed back to a 36-36 tie at intermission. Scott still led by 7 early in the 4th, but clutch free throw shooting (30-33 for the game) helped Augusta come back and win 76-72. Connor Maddox paced the Panthers with 30 points, while Snapp totaled 24 points & 8 boards. The win sets up tonight's semi-final clash with host Mason County.

Meanwhile, Campbell County started their 3-game week with a Tuesday night shellacking of Ethan Snapp and Newport. The Camels won 80-55, holding the outstanding Snapp to just 3 points, while getting 17 points & 11 boards from Matt Wilson, 10 points & 8 boards from sophomore Cole Hegyi, & a team-high 18 points from Dre Jackson. Campbell traveled to the state's #8 ranked team Covington Catholic on Wednesday and was handed its first loss, 65-46. The Camels hung with the defending state champs for 3 quarters, trailing 41-39 entering the final frame, but CovCath's defense swarmed and took the game over. Wilson led the Camels with 17 points & 9 rebounds, with Jackson contributing 15 points. Aric Russell's team righted the ship in the aforementioned Mike Murphy Classic on Friday, jumping out to a 42-23 halftime lead over Harrison County before eventually coming away with an 85-58 triumph. Jackson led all scorers with 27 points, Wilson added 14 points & 9 boards, & junior guard Trent McGovney contributed 12 points.

Mason County still perfect

The Royals remain the Region's only unblemished team after the third week of play. Dorian Henry & company entertained 39th District foe Bracken County on Tuesday. The Royals made quick work of the Polar Bears, scoring the game's first 25 points & building a lead as big as 42 points, winning 73-38. Henry paced Mason with 18 points & 6 rebounds. Junior sub Conner Sweeney scored a career-high 10 points as well. Chris O'Hearn's team then hosted 9th Region opponent Ryle in Saturday night's Quarterfinal of the Mike Murphy Classic. The Royals dominated again, defeating the Raiders 64-37 behind Henry's 29 points & 9 rebounds. Jake O'Mara chipped in with 11 points & 7 boards.

Indians rebound in Week 3

After a tough week 2, where they finished 0-2, the Montgomery County Indians enjoyed a 3-1 week 3. MoCo led Bourbon County at the half on Tuesday 23-21 & then opened it up in the 2nd half, winning 56-42. Friday saw the Indians get a sluggish 43-31 win over Dixie Heights in the Kentucky Bank Challenge at Rowan County, thanks in large part to a perfect 17-17 free throw shooting performance. On Saturday, Montgomery played twice, winning its first game of the KBC 79-48 over East Jessamine. The Indians scorched the nets from beyond the arc, connecting on 13-25 3-point attemps. Sam Hodgson led the way with 23 points. Game 2 of the day saw MoCo battle back from a 22-4 deficit, but ultimately fall to Johnson Central 59-57. Art Walker had a 3-point attempt in the final seconds that would have given the Indians the lead, but it was off the mark. Still, the junior guard scored a team-high 20 points.

Cardinals win a pair

George Rogers Clark won both of its games last week, starting with a Tuesday night 60-36 toppling of Woodford County. Braxton Greene scored 21 points for the Cards, with sophomore Jerryd Jones adding 14 points & 6 rebounds. Malachi Israel was scoreless with only 1 field goal attempt, but the senior guard's defensive effort helped key GRC's victory. Clark also participated in Rowan County's Kentucky Bank Challenge, facing Johnson Central on Friday. Scott Humphrey's bunch fared better against JC than Montgomery County would the next day, beating the Golden Eagles 79-64. Four GRC players notched double figures, led by junior big man James Cornelius, who finished with 20 points & 6 rebounds. Jones added 13, Damion King 12, & sophomore guard Jordan Davis had 11.

Paris goes 3-1

The Greyhounds continued their strong play last week, beginning with an 86-45 whipping of Robertson County on Tuesday. Thursday the Hounds began hosting the Mingua Beef Jerky Hoopfest, with Paris winning 74-59 over Frankfort. Sophomore wing Jekobi Wells scored 28 points & junior forward Koebe Garrard earned 23. On Saturday, Paris lost for just the second time this season, 65-52 to Tates Creek. But Terence Brooks' club ended the week with a 76-66 victory over Model. Garrard & Wells again led, scoring 23 and 22 points respectively. Wan Dumphord also had a good game, finishing with 13 points.

Scott continues to struggle without Schneider

It's been a bit of deja vu for Scott and its outstanding guard Blake Schneider. The senior missed a significant chunk of games last year with injury & has unfortunately done the same to start 2014-15. Without their leader, the Eagles lost two more games last week, making it five straight losses after starting 3-0. The Eagles fell 66-54 at Holy Cross on Tuesday night, despite getting 26 points from another outstanding guard, sophomore Jake Ohmer. Then the Eagles were then defeated by Augusta 76-72 in the Mike Murphy Classic on Saturday. Ohmer again led Brad Carr's team with 25 points and junior guard Andrew Trame netted 15 points. There is light at the end of the tunnel for Scott, though, as Schneider is expected to return after Christmas.

Mustangs stay at .500

Bishop Brossart has developed a pattern of lose, win, lose, win, lose, win. The Mustangs sit at 3-3 after another 1-1 week of play. Brossart fell behind early at Beechwood on Monday night, closed the gap to as few as 4 points, but ended up losing 62-54. Spencer Hackworth scored 17 for the Stangs, while junior Jacob Zai and senior Jonathan Zink both tallied 16 points. Brossart scored its win on Saturday at home against Highlands, led by a career-high 20 points from Zink, with Hackworth contributing 11 in the winning effort.

Pendleton, Bracken with memorable Week 3's

Keaton Belcher's Pendleton County Wildcats were up to the challenge when they played host to then-undefeated Augusta on Monday. The Wildcats led the entire way, handing the Panthers their first loss of the season by a score of 78-70. Senior big man Hunter Lea was dominant, scoring 15 points & grabbing 18 rebounds. Sophomore Michael Antrobus led the Wildcats with 17 points, including some big free throws down the stretch. Antrobus scored a team-high 20 points on Thursday in Pendleton's 74-59 win over visiting Ludlow. 8th grader Dontaie Allen added 18 points & 5 rebounds, while Lea totaled 14 points & 7 boards.

In between Pendleton County's 2 games, Bracken County traveled to The Fieldhouse on Tuesday and left on the end of a lopsided 73-38 loss at the hands of Mason County. Austin Crawford was the lone bright spot for the Polar Bears, scoring 25 points and gathering 11 rebounds.

Friday night, the two teams squared off in Brooksville for a dandy. Crawford not only tied a school record by scoring 44 points (and pulled down 15 rebounds as well), but the dynamite guard hit a shot at the buzzer to give the Bears and Coach Jeremy Miles a 71-70 win. Sophomore guard Jacob Hamilton was solid as well finishing with 16 points for Bracken. The Wildcats were led by Allen's 24 points on 7-10 FG shooting, 3-5 3pt. shooting, & 7-12 FT's. Lea added another double-double of 10 points & 13 boards. The two teams will ring in the New Year with a January 2nd rematch in Falmouth.

Additional Notes

* Harrison County's lone contest last week was the previously mentioned 85-58 loss to Campbell County in the Mike Murphy Classic. Despite the defeat, Breds' senior forward Trenton Thompson continued his strong play, recording 22 points & 12 rebounds.

* It was a 2-1 week for Roger Newton's Nicholas County team. Elijah Barnett went for 15 points and 5 rebounds in the Jackets' first win of the season over Western Hills (59-45) on Monday. In a Friday night 58-48 win at Robertson County, senior guard Devin Trussell finished with 16 points, 8 rebounds, & 7 assists. Nicholas finished the week with a 47-46 nail-biting loss to Estill County in the Kentucky Bank Challenge.

* Howard Brownstein's Silver Grove club is presently riding a 4-game winning streak, with 3 of those wins coming last week. The Trains upended Calvary Christian 58-38 on Tuesday, led by Billy Miller's 18 points & 13 rebounds. The Grove then beat Heritage Academy 80-59 on Thursday, before nipping Dayton 69-66 on Saturday.

* Calvary Christian lost both of its games, beginning with the Silver Grove loss mentioned above. The Cougars lost at Beth Haven on Saturday 76-44. Chris Douthitt's squad stands at 1-5 on the year.

* John Brown's young Robertson County team also lost twice last week, falling at Paris 86-45 on Tuesday & then at home to Nicholas County 58-48 on Friday. Freshman Mason Burden played fairly well for the Black Devils, recording 12 points against Paris and a team-high 16 against Nicholas.

* Surprising news came from Bourbon County this week when head coach Bob Eades stepped down from his position. Taking his place was Tony Sosby & the Colonels managed a 2-2 record in Week 3. After consecutive losses to Montgomery County (56-42) and Lincoln County (73-48), Bourbon beat Anderson County Saturday in the Woodford County Invitational by a score of 74-69. Senior guard Landon Sexton poured in 35 points in a victory that avenged a loss from the week previous. The Colonels followed that up the next day with a 79-75 OT win over Fleming County in the same tournament. Austin Jones scored 19 and Michael Baker 17 to lead Sosby's club.

* St. Patrick did not play in Week 3.

I was too. :irked:

How'd the Mason/Augusta game go?? No final score thread?

Nick Sosby, Tony's son, is the Coach at Bourbon County. Still an awsome job as always!
