Well it is only week 2 of the high school basketball season and there have already been a lot of really good basketball games with many more to come in the next few weeks. Here are the 12th Region rankings for 12/14/14 and some basketball notes from the past week.

5) West Jessamine (5-1)

6) Mercer County (3-2)

7) Pulaski County (3-1)

14) Garrard County (1-4)

15) Burgin (1-6)

16) Kentucky School f/t Deaf (5-3)

Notes from week 2 (12/14/14):

-The Cardinals from Wayne County are getting a feel for what the target on their back brings them early in the season. With two consecutive losses to top 12th Region competition, the top ranked Cardinals realize this will not be an easy road back to Rupp.

-Depth has proven to be a problem for Wayne County early in the season.

-Timmy Taylor put up 33 points in Lincoln County’s win over #1 ranked Wayne County. Cory Stearns had 22 points for Wayne County. The Patriots are off to an impressive start with good wins over quality teams.

-The 46th District is shaping up to be the toughest district in the 12th region this year. Three quality teams with one of those sitting at home come region time. Some big 46th District games coming up this week.

-Freshman Trevon Faulkner had 33 points in Mercer County’s win over Moore. Faulkner is averaging 23.6 points per game so far this season and could be making his case as the top freshman in the 12th Region.

-Boyle County is back to full strength with Colton Elkins returning to the lineup. In Boyle County’s win over Knox Central, Jeremiah Bell had 29 points, Hagen Tyler had 22 points and 14 rebounds, and Elkins added 20 points and 7 block shots.

-Southwestern had a statement win over Wayne County Friday night beating the Cardinals by 22 points 88-66. Wayne had no answer for Southwestern’s big man Dylan Gaskins who had 27 points and 11 rebounds for the Warriors. As a team Southwestern out rebounded the Cardinals 44-26 and shot 49% from the field.

-Southwestern is averaging 85.2 points a game so far this season.

-Somerset defeats Rockcastle County in the highest scoring games of the year thus far 109-101. Sophomore Landon Powell had 33 points for the Jumpers.

-Welcome D. J. White to the Casey County lineup. The transfer from Madisonville-North Hopkins is now eligible to play for the Rebels and will be a force in the paint for opponents.

-Welcome back Riley Hall to the Pulaski County Maroons basketball lineup. Last Friday night the quarterback led the Maroons to their first state football title and this Friday he led the way with 16 points in Pulaski County’s 58-54 win over Casey County. Other players on the state championship team now getting varsity minutes are George Gregory, Mason Helton, Jake Johnson, and Tristen Royalty.

-In Pulaski County’s 58-54 slugfest win over Casey County there were 52 fouls called and 53 free throws shot. The Maroons must still be in a football mindset.

-When was the last time Wayne County had a losing record? Answer: In 2011 Wayne County started the season 2-3. This year the Cardinals are 1-2. That losing record won’t be there very long.

-Stearns is leading Wayne County in scoring thus far this season averaging 21.3 points per game.

-In the surprise upset of the week, East Jessamine beats Southwestern 82-67 in the Asbury University High School Shootout. Camryn Jones returned to the starting lineup for the Jaguars and led the team in scoring with 23 points. Rashawn Jackson added 21, and Hayden Smith had 19 points for the Jaguars.

-Brooks Ely shot 88.9% from the field and scored 24 points in West Jessamines win over Danville. Saih Holifield added 21 points for the Colts. West’s duo also had 24 and 26 point respectively in the Colt’s 89-71 win over North Oldham last night.

-2 undefeated teams left in the 12th region and both are from the 45th District. Boyle County sits at 4-0 and Lincoln County is 5-0.

It's hard to argue against Boyle County being #1 and Lincoln County being #2.

I still think Southwestern is the best team in the region but it's hard to make that point since they couldn't beat East Jessamine and I understand that point.

I still think SW is the best though followed by Boyle County and then Lincoln County.

I think Lincoln County is better than what people think but I guess we'll see on Tuesday how good they are and how good West Jessamine is.

The 46th District is the toughest district in the region and it isn't close. A quality team from that district won't be in the region tournament.

Danville losing to Spencer County by 19 is..........interesting.

Trevon Faulkner is off to an amazing start. 45.2% from three point land is the most impressive stat of his to me. I've never thought he could shoot but obviously I am wrong there. Freshman......

Jeremiah Bell is better than I thought. I knew he was good but damn....he's really good. #swag

Colton Elkins is averaging 7 blocks a game.

Hagen Tyler....best player in the region.

The 47th should be interesting with Somerset, Casey County and Pulaski County.

Wayne County will be fine.

Shout out to Tommy Lopresto from Burgin for his 36 point game against East Jessamine. I love that kid. :thumb:

I haven't seen the other Southwestern transfer's name in any of their box scores (African kid). So I looked up their roster on the KHSAA site and he's not listed.

Anyone know his status?

As of today he is still not eligible.

I don't know where SW belongs in the rankings. I do know they are very young at most spots and will have some ups and downs. When 5 of your top 7 are freshman and sophomores its gonna happen. Hope it don't happen much.
