The Kentucky Football Coaches Association has named its Player of the Year and Coach of the Year in all six classes. Player of the Year winners were Male quarterback Davis Mattingly (Class 6-A), Madison Southern running back Damien Harris (5-A), North Oldham running back Arien Beasley (4-A), Estill County quarterback/linebacker Trevor Jones (3-A), Caldwell County quarterback Elijah Sindelar and Russellville quarterback/defensive back Ta’Corian Darden.

 

Coach of the Year winners were Central Hardin’s Tim Mattingly (6-A), Iroquois’ Preston King (5-A), Franklin-Simpson’s Doug Preston (4-A), Estill County’s Mike Jones (3-A), Caldwell County’s David Barnes (2-A) and Pikeville’s Chris McNamee (A).

I don't understand how the coach of the year, 2 years in a row, can be Caldwell County. I'm not saying he didn't do a good job both years, but why wouldn't the coach from Desales or even Newcath get it since they both represented in the state tournament for the last 2 years. Not sure how the coaches are picked, but come on. I think the coach from Desales defiantly deserved it.

Also, Estill County? I don't follow 3A but were they even ranked this year? They almost lost in round 1 of the playoffs and then lost big in round 2. And their coach gets coach of the year? Someone who follows 3A please explain that one to me.

Two years ago his team went 0-10...last season 5-6 and this year 9-3. Beat Garrard @ Garrard, lost 10 to Bourbon and beat Mason County.

You have to be a member of the KFCA to vote for the KFCA coach of the year, who must also be a member of the KFCA
