South Warren is undefeated and #1 in 3A and they take on a Russellville team that looks to bounce back after a tough loss to Mayfield on Friday. Will Russellville have enough in the tank to defeat South Warren? IMO this is a good chance for South Warren to gain some credibility after seeing how Russellville played Mayfield so tough. An argument can be made for Russellville being South Warren's toughest opponent so far.

Who wins this matchup?

A game I will be monitoring closely.

If SW is the favorite in 3A I would expect them to win this by 10 or so

I agree.

Game is at South this year. Last years game was 21 to 6 South and was at Russellville. Last year was much the same situation where Russellville came off a 42 to 21 loss to Mayfield the week before.

South has had a week off. So this game could end up being close. I think South's Defense and Home field will be the difference in this game and the score will probably be close to what it was last year 21 to 7 South.

South is the real deal no way any 1a team can beat them or IMO even challenge them. South win 41-14

A 5a school is supposed to beat a 1a school at home. And I would take Mayfield even up on a neutral field against SW. I have been looking forward to this game as Pride said and I believe Russellville is the best team on South's schedule. I think South wins the game but IMO South needs a close game to get ready for the playoffs.

DT, I know we don't see eye to eye on much, but what I said was true by the numbers. I do think South wins this game as I said before. And they do need a close game in the playoffs. It will help them. If your first close game is deep in the playoffs, you have no idea how your team will react. And you hate my team because I don't hate yours; just calling it like I see it.

Mayfield barely beat Russellville 16-8.... I have watched film on Russellville and they are a 1 dimensional offensive team with very little discipline on the defensive side of the ball, but we're able to hold Mayfield to 16pts... Doesn't bold well for Mayfield IMO....

I agree that South Warren needs a close game to truly be tested, but I consider the fact that no team has come close to beating them this season as a testament to how good they truly are...

Purple 88 I don't hate the purples, I hate the pompous attitudes many of their fans have (not referring to you), and their attitude make it difficult to be an outsider and cheer from this. Most people who live around the area feel the same way.... If Fans were more humble, people in BG would support them more.

DT,

This is a really good post. First, I said I would take Mayfield straight up on a neutral field because mostly of the competition they have played this year (McCracken County - yes they lost in OT, but that's a 6A school - Paducah Tilghman, Murray, Graves County, Russellville and now Caldwell County - all tough teams that will test you and allow you to significantly get better each week). IMO the reason that Russellville (who I agree with your assessment of) stayed close to MF is that their Coach coached at MF. NO ONE knows MF better than he does. This is not to take a stab at SW. I was trying to bring the other poster down a little bit.

I will agree with you that there are likely more pompous BG fans than I know of since I'm insulated up here in Louisville. I told someone, in BG you either LOVE BG or Hate them because your not allowed to stay in the middle. The mouthy fans make you go one way or the other, which I don't like, but I'm not their Mom.

It will say South Warren vs. Belfry for the 3A title unless injuries derail Belfry or a tight game causes SW to stumble, but I don't see it now.:thumb:
