Do you like the last game of the season being non-district?

There are a lot of interesting matchups coming up next week, FS-Hopkinsville, Caldwell Co.-Mayfield, Highlands-Warren Central just to name a few. I'd like to see some of these games, but I wonder how much importance the different teams will place on them. Since they will have no impact on the playoffs (except for tie-breaker purposes) will some teams rest banged-up starters to save them for the postseason? These same games could be scheduled earlier in the year, when teams would be more likely to treat them differently than they would if they weren't worried about getting healthy for the playoffs. I liked it better when district titles were settled in the last game of the year, it seemed like the whole season was building toward the playoffs instead of now having almost an exhibition game in between the end of district play and the playoffs.

For example, a few years back when Courtney Dalcourt was the QB at FS, FS went to Fort Campbell in the last game of the season and won 17-7. It was the only loss of the season for the Falcons, who went on to win the state title. This was during their 3-year state title streak. It was a great win for FS, with one big asterisk beside it--Fort Campbell's starting QB was held out for this game because he was banged up. He would have played had it been a game that had bearing on the playoffs. By the way, that QB was current Tennessee Titans RB Antonio Andrews. FS probably would have lost had he been in there, but we will never know if they could have still won or not. Had they played earlier in the season, Andrews may well have played this game.

I'm torn.

Yes, because of the chance to renew longstanding, non-divisional rivalries.

No, because I imagine in a great many cases, guys are being rested for the playoffs.

This would never happen in the NewCath/Beechwood game, both teams live to beat one another and have bragging rights for a year....it means that much.

If the Trinity staff could have an open week, they would be fine with it. A district game is too important for the final week when everyone makes the playoffs anyway.
