There's a big difference between playing hard and playing dirty.

I'm not talking about the 6 yellows, although that is certainly nothing to be proud of, I'm speaking about the general hack and attack type play that Holy Cross, and some other teams, seem to favor when under pressure. Hacking, dragging, going in studs-up... That's not "hard" play, that's dirty.

HC 6 yellows......including one for the coach

CCH 1 yellow..I think.....ref never actually showed it to him....CCH player was backing in trying to gain position near the goal and he and the defender tangled . As the HC player was going down ( probably caused by the CCH player) he grabbed the CCH player and brought him with him. Then dove on top of him and prohibited him from getting up. Instant yellow to HC and a yellow (possibly) to the CCH player to calm things down.

 

On a side note....HC family and friends......good luck in the regionals. BUT.....please.....please......in the next games, wherever they may take you....Sit in the stands on YOUR teams half of the 50 yard line. As competition moves forward, and if your style of play remains the same, sitting intermingled amongst the other teams family and fans has the real opportunity of causing real friction

You must have been watching a different game because both sides we're doing the same amount of hacking and dragging. This is also high school soccer. Meaning the physicality aspect will almost always be present. Cov cath may not be use to that because of the finesse soccer they like to play.

The Cov Cath boys are well versed in how to play physical soccer. I'm sure they'll take your finesse remark as a compliment.

No offense but you were the one watching a different game and the 6 yellow cards bear that out to a large extent. The first 20 mins of this game were clean and both teams were just playing. After the second CCH goal you could see the demeanor of HC change but if you didn't see that there is not much to say. I've never said all the CCH kids are angels, they are not, but for the most part they play soccer and their coach keeps a lid on the extracurricular activity and doesn't tolerate it. And the finesse comment, I'll assume that it's a compliment but with 7-8 high level club players starting for CCH I assure you they have seen plenty of physical play. Physical play is fine but the cheap fouls with no intent to play soccer are what I'm talking about.

Two of the HC yellow cards were for three fouls by the same person in a row.......can't remember the name for it....persistance? ....sorry senior moment.....

 

....but when a player is whistled for three fouls in 5 minutes....they aren't playing soccer, they are looking for hacking opportunities. This happened twice.

There seems to be a lot of animosity towards holy cross for just playing hard. Both teams were running there mouths throughout the game. However, it was 2-0 and cov cath player committed an obvious foul. From then on the chipping went back and forth mainly starting from number 7 on cov cath. Ill I hear is just excuses on why the score was only 3-0. And if I recall from the Cooper game it was completely even in the foul standpoint. And the only player to receive a red card was Cooper.

 

I can remember two actions involving #7.......one was when he made a move and was beginning an unfettered run to the goal, when the HC defender who was beaten grabbed him and held on like a tackle.....if I remember correctly, #7 put his hands up, didn't push....and the HC player was called for a foul.....probably should have been a card since he had an unobstructed run to the goal......

 

Second action was right in front of the stands. He and #6 for HC were hustling to try to get to a pass before it goes out of bounds. Ball goes out, #7 was leading the race and pulls up....HC throw in.....for some reason, #6 grabs him and places his hand on his head trying to start something....I guess...no other reason to do it.....happened right n front of the IR......he calls center over and HC #6 gets yellow.

 

 

On a side note......saw a CCH player at halftime.......old man bladder........he mentioned to me that it was worse than the Scott game.......(sorry Scott......his words )

Just a spectator at this game, not a fan of either side. I agree that HC was aggressive and sometimes too aggressive, yellow cards were deserved but CCH was definitely not innocent as some of these bias remarks are insinuating. They had plenty of physical fouls that went uncalled. Arm grabbing and tripping to name a few. I know you CCH fans saw them because I was sitting behind you and it happened right in front of us. You could be considered a hypocrite for the way you speak of HC's aggressiveness if you're not careful. HC held CCH to 3 points because of their defense alone and I think some of you have a big problem with that. As for HC, their offense was lacking organization and skill which resulted in almost no shots on goals. When all is said and done, I believe CCH is definitely the better team. Congratulations on the win. Good luck to both teams in Regionals.

I think if you pull Scott and N+tm+g into the conversation that should just about do it.

I think it is funny that several weeks later people from CCH had the same take on how HC plays that I did when they played Cooper earlier in the season. Almost identical comments about how they changed their "style" of play once they were scored on.

I have seen several HC games. In certain games the aggressiveness is and isn't there. Ncc they lost 4 to 0 and they did not become hacks or foul constantly. In the HC vs Scott game they lost 3 to 0. They did not become hacks and so on. I think in the cov cath and HC game it got out of hand. The center ref tired to control it but fell apart. I believe the fault was on both sides, but obviously this argument is not gonna change your mind
