Great victory for Boone tonight. Defense played very well in this low scoring match. Offense kept the pressure on but couldn't find net.

Cooper played hard. Had to be proud of them too. Refs did pretty well though they missed a call when I thought Boone defender tripped Hardcorn outside the box. There were some other missed calls that went against Boone. It did get rough in the end. But all in all, I thought game was well called by refs.

I think this gives Boone top seed in the district.

Boone travels to Lex Catholic on Saturday evening.

Good luck to Cooper in their next match.

I have to agree with your comments oldgrappler, I thought both teams played really hard and it was a pretty clean game, good atmosphere. I think that Cooper wore down a little and they had trouble getting much offense going tonight, partially because of being short handed and also because they were not able to run their offense through who they wanted to because of the defense marking him the whole time.

I too, thought that there should have been a foul called when Hardcorn went down, after the match, I saw a picture that clearly showed that he was in the box... but it was a clean tackle... the Boone player clearly got all ball. My son was also trailing the play and he said it was a clean tackle, I guess the ref actually got it right. I was a little puzzled by two that he called in Cooper's favor that actually involved our goalie coming out after the ball, it seemed like he was definitely giving our keeper the benefit of the doubt, I thought that both of them should have been "play on" and no foul called.

I hate to see the lone goal scored on a misplay by the defense off the throw-in but credit to Boone for taking advantage of it.

You are correct on the seeding. Boone will play Conner, Cooper will play Ryle.

Thanks for setting the record straight on the Hardcorn no call. My son also said he thought it was a good tackle by Wheeler and I told him he was wrong. Guess I'll have to set the record straight tomorrow morning.

Should have made yourself known tonight. I would have bought you a soft drink at the concession stand during half time.

BTW, my compliments on the field.

Hey oldgrappler... Congratulations are in order... wcpo.com says you guys won the District Title last night. :idunno:

They also say that the goal was on a through ball from Thamann to Mayberry... I sure thought that was off a throw-in. :)

Guess there's no need to play it out then and I won't have to buy you that Diet Coke, YC.

I checked my sources (because my memory has faded since last night). Boone secured the top seed for the District tournament and Mayberry scored off a THROW-IN from Thamann.

Post modern journalism: it's all in how you perceive it to be. :bag:

Have to ask (and not trying to stir anything up). Is the loss of Ross starting to show? Just curious what your thoughts are on that. That's not to discredit BC's play at all either.

Would have been interesting to see this match up when both teams were at full strength...and on decent playing surface!

Last nights game was some ugly soccer, but at this point in the season, post season, and with district seeding at stake, it is all about the W!

Valid question unbiasedcoach... here is my take on it.

Remove what some would call the "best player" on any squad and of course it will have an impact, in how they play on the pitch, and emotionally. Take this sort of player off of Cooper and I think the impact is greater, maybe not as much on a deeper team such as CCH, but Cooper is not a deep squad by any means. I think the other thing that plays into this is the ages of most of the starters at Cooper, over half of them are only 14/15, I think it might be harder for them to deal with emotionally.

Another factor is injuries, O'Brien has been out since early in the Scott match, IMO... this is just as big a loss to the team. Some have referred to Cooper's offensive threat as R.O.S., only 1/3 of that threat has been on the pitch for almost 3 entire matches. Granted, 2 of these were losses but I feel that both of these matches could have swung either way, and it is not like these were not 2 tough teams either. Scott- there were many missed chances by Cooper, Boone Co- lone goal was off a defensive miscue.

So yes, I think the loss of Ross shows but O'Brien being out is also a huge factor. Getting O'Brien back in the next few days will be a big lift for the team, and maybe all they will need to make a nice run at the end of the season. I feel the boys have actually gained some confidence in the past couple of matches, they were starting to hear a lot of... you are nothing without Ross, season is now over, you have no chance at winning now, etc... Playing the last couple of matches with neither of these two players might actually help them out in the long run. The good thing about all these boys being so young is that their memories are very short.

As pointed out in some comments made by a BC parent last night... I can't believe how well some of your boys played tonight, match could have gone either way, it took 2/3 of our boys to contain some players, we are not looking forward to possibly meeting them again this year... much less the next couple of seasons.

Agreed... I also understood that Boone was also missing a couple of starters... praying that the Suarez boy is doing better.
