October 3, 201412 yr Spot on Plato. Parents need to be pro-active also. I have told my children, middle and high school, not to answer questions of school officials or law enforcement, about a serious allegation without myself or their mother present. For the record, I don't ever anticipate having that situation but better they be prepared than not with what I see come through court. This.
October 3, 201412 yr A question I'd like to see people answer before they go forward in this thread. How long has it been since everyone was in college? This is Generation Rx. Jessie Spano and Saved By The Bell started addressing it, and it's the elephant in the room now. If you don't think kids are "academic doping", you are nuts. Not trying to make excuses for this student, but I'll say that if you all think that this isn't something that probably happens daily, especially at more competitive private schools, then I'm going to go ahead and break it to you: you probably know someone who you think is a really good kid, successful in high school, going to a prestigious college, tons of extra curriculars, all that... and they've probably taken a prescription drug like the one here without a prescription because they thought and/or used it to get an edge, whether it be studying, before a big test, or to keep going during the grind of some longer days. If you just read that and said never, all I can say to you is that maybe one day you'll find out something that changes your mind or surprises you. I'd say that the news of this probably surprises some people who knew her personally, but wouldn't surprise many students who those same adults think are just wholesome, well rounded kids. This. I know during my long and storied college tenure, Adderall use was huge and only grew as the years progressed.

October 4, 201412 yr 90 day supply is available via mail order pharmacies. That is news to me. My experience with controlled substance prescriptions: --Call doctor for script (At least 24hrs ahead of time) --Pick up script. (Have to sign and show ID) --Take script to pharmacy --Pharmacy checks and WILL NOT FILL if it's been less than 30 days since last refill.

This was why I made the comment about some parent accountability of the student who sold the Vyvanse.....not blaming the parent, just some shared responsibility.

Still not refillable. So new original prescription each time. Also use may vary since its not 'needed' - many do not take on weekends, etc. when concentration and focus is less critical. So in any case, 'extra' may be around. Obviously this is one way there is so much floating around. As noted in #47 above its been around colleges for long time. Now into the high schools. Its not good. The entire 'stimulant-driven' range is a problem. From coffee to energy drinks to stimulant-based ADHD meds.
