mcpapa Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Basketball season for 2014/2015 should provide another exciting year. What should we expect from Holmes? Remember, please be constructive.
RCC9 Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Holmes will be good! They snuck up on teams last year with their team speed. Very athletic and fast!!!! The transfer from Cincy (Tubbs) will help their shooting/scoring woes from a year ago. The transfer of Mayes won't hurt either. This will be a fun team to watch. I still think if you can slow them down and not turn the ball over, they are very beatable. But they will definitely be a contender this year! They are actually the team I want to see most. I missed our game against them last year and am excited about watching them this year. Love the Stovall girl!
dg21 Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 This team has a lot of upside and potential. They may as deep as athletic and really it depends on the maturation of alot of their players to see how they handle this much depth and talent on one roster. They truly will have 7 potential starters on one roster. The team is guard heavy and have added some depth in the bigs department that will be a big factor in their success. They return 4 starters ( Stoval, Harris, Englemon, Gulley) and have a returning outside threat in Parker along with the additions of Tubbs and Mayes.

RCC9 Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 There loaded. Team to beat in the 9th. Not sure I would crown the "the" team to beat in the ninth, but "one of" the teams to beat for sure! The three transfers in the last two years didn't hurt them at all!

They can slow it down to. Not just run an gun.
TripleSevens Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 There loaded. Team to beat in the 9th. Think I'll go with your screen name for now. :sssh:
dg21 Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 with all do respect Gulley is going to do damage in the post and perimeter. She's improved since last season. Along with Tubbs, Harris, Stovall, Englemon and Mayes. 9th region better watch out.
RCC9 Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 with all do respect Gulley is going to do damage in the post and perimeter. She's improved since last season. Along with Tubbs, Harris, Stovall, Englemon and Mayes. 9th region better watch out. We've established they will be good, but so will others. And are you saying all the other players in the 9th have not improved since last year? I would think they all improved as well.
dg21 Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 I didn't see a ton of other 9th region girls in the gym practicing daily or on the court on weekends! I'm sure a lot of the young ladies did get better... at softball, volleyball, and maybe even basketball?? Again I'm not saying there aren't players that have improved but I do for a fact know a few girls who kept working hard all summer at this particular sport! ( by the way I'm pretty sure my girls hacked that last post)

( by the way I'm pretty sure my girls hacked that last post) I hear ya! I know 6 of the 7 top players for HHS lived on the court this summer (between AAU and individual workouts with Nancy Winstel). The exception being my daughter who was traveling on the softball circuit (which is paying off!). I think more are out there than you know. Just because you didn't see them, doesn't mean they weren't playing. Some play with Cincy teams, some play at an elite level and not around here and some play up with older teams. And some are younger. So they were out there...just hiding from you!
dg21 Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 I forgot to mention freshman Laila Johnson will be a solid contributor to this team especially on defense! Great speed and next level quickness!
RCC9 Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Most of these girls play AAU together for the Legends. With the transfers who do you think can slow them down? They can slow it down to. Not just run an gun. Why do we care that most play for the Legends? Almost all the good players in the 9th play AAU all summer for good teams. With the transfers? In my opinion, one is a good fit and one isn't. Also, adding transfers isn't always a good thing. And the HS coach isn't the AAU coach and HS play is much different than AAU. And yes, they were an up and coming team last year, but why all of a sudden would we crown them 9th champs...because of two transfers that haven't played 1 minute with that team? And whether you want to believe it or not, this team will still struggle with teams that don't turn the ball over (creating easy baskets) and teams that pack it in against them. Even if Tubbs was a "lights out" shooter from 3, that only makes one. Again, I think they will be in the mix and I'm not trying to pound on them, but you asked. You are also discounting the talent on 3-4 other really good teams in the 9th. In my opinion, teams will go on runs this year. But come tournament time, I don't think there will be a clear cut favorite going into post season.
dg21 Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 You sure seem to know an awful lot about a team that you have yet to see play?? Thought you missed the game last year??
RCC9 Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 You sure seem to know an awful lot about a team you that you have yet to see play?? Thought you missed the game last year?? I did miss it. But I know several of their players. I talk to a lot of coaches in the 9th. I have also coached some of them and have seen many over the course of the years in school and AAU ball. I coached AAU for a long time. My question to you is...am I wrong? Was a lot of their success last year do to pressure and forcing turnovers? Did they struggle from the outside? And didn't one of their only outside threats (from last year) graduate?
