Covington Holy Cross 48 Bishop Brossart 19

Featured Replies

Covington Holy Cross ran out to a 35-0 first half lead, and then we appear to have had a good football game with the Tribe 2s.

Thanks to nkypete for the updates.

It continues to amaze me at just how wide the parity chasm is in football.

Three more 2A games for the Mustangs, then better days ahead.

Good luck to the Indians in district play.

Mustang,

After seeing Brossart play for the first time this season tonight I can say one thing. That group of coach's and kids gained my upmost respect tonight. I have followed their off-season and wasn't sure what to expect. They played a 1000 times harder then HC and short of a few mistakes. They could have made that game interesting. Their future certainly looks bright and I think Coach Wiggins has done a fantastic job with the program. On the other side of the coin. Outside of HC's qb. I really didn't think they looked good at all. Wow how they have fallen!!!

My response to you:

1) The Brossart men did very well considering their small numbers. #35 came in and did a great job at QB after #7 was hurt. They did not stop fighting.

2) They did not play 1000 times harder than HC. Both teams played hard. This is an incorrect exaggeration. The Indians were very intense while going after their first win. The coaches would not let any one of them relax or they were replaced immediately (I was there).

3) Hamilton (the HC QB) had a great game running for 2 TDs and throwing two more. Abernathy came on strong with 147 yards and 1 TD rushing and 1 TD receiving. Other than that, the Indians were balanced statistic wise as can be seen from the box score. I do not understand how you can say that they did not look good. What more did you expect?

4) I am personally tired of the "fallen" remarks. Yes, they are struggling to win games the last couple years. The 2011 championship year was special - there was a lot of speed, size, and talent on that team - everything came together. This is a different set of kids. HC has not "retooled" like other teams. But, you know, the effort is still there and I hope they continue giving a good effort in their district regardless of result.

nkypete, these were simply my observations and opinion on what I saw. As far as expectations. I didn't have any. I was surprised to see the Brossart O able to move the ball (with ease) at some points in the game. Especially with their third Qb playing. I wish both teams the best the rest of the year. And applaud not only your work, but also Mustang's for your respected programs.

Actually, BBHS moved the ball all night just stall out and threw a pic in the endzone. And HC didn't put their 2's until the 4th quarter, at the same time BBHS put the subs they could in at that time. Still trying to understand the onside kick by HC up 35, which well, good luck doing that against Lloyd, Newport and NCC. But it bit them b/c BBHS went down and scored, then came out after half and drove down field and scored in the 3rd quarter.

That was not an onside kick. That was actually a squib kick gone awry because the kicker slipped on that thing they call a football field at Holmes. I know this to be a fact. Brossart was all up in arms, and rightfully so, because they thought it was an onside kick. It was not. End of discussion.

If that "thing they call a football field at Holmes" is so bad, maybe this game can be played at either Holy Cross or Brossart's home field. Ooops

That's funny!
