The officiating in this game was horrendous. The two cards mentioned above were frustration over blatant inconsistencies in the way the game was being called. An obvious foul seconds before on Brossart was allowed then a much cleaner play by St Henry was called a foul at the edge of the box. The ref gave Brossart two highly questionable kicks at the edge of the box that led to their goals. The AR on the fans'side of the field was completely worthless as he wouldn't even indicate who was supposed to take a throw and ignored the Brossart keeper moving off the line early again on the last PK. Keeper took at least two or three steps forward before it was kicked.

 

Worst crew that I have seen in a long time. At one point the center blew his whistle making no call and came over to talk to the AR who couldn't have an opinion to save his life and took away a throw in from St Henry to call an imaginary foul to give Brossart yet another kick. Game was tough to watch. Took forever with all of the stops in the action.

 

Brossart deserved the win or tie. St Henry is desperately looking for a way to mesh their players into a team and the answers just aren't coming. They are struggling to finish anything in the flow of play. They need to find answers quickly or they are going to have plenty of time to get their homework done come tournament time.

All I have to add to this thread is... Just when you think refs can't get any worse you get a crew like last night. Unbelievably bad. The keeper was clearly off his line for both penalty kicks that were saved. The AR was just ornamental, he made no correct calls, and looked like he had no idea of what was going on. At times the ref was the 12th man for Brossart. Disgraceful officiating.

I agree that something will have to be done to get the players to mesh, but at this point I don't see what. Too many "personalities" disagreeing with each other, both on and off the field. It's too bad as with some of the talent there it had really good potential.

I have not been able to get to a St Henry match this year so I am relying on the comments of others when it comes to how they are playing. I understand that you have to work through things from time to time but I do not understand how they have yet to get on the right track this far into the season. There is more than enough talent on this squad to compete with anyone in NKY, looking at scores, results, match reports, etc... It just is not happening, I hope they are able to get things headed in the right direction these last few weeks.

It's not all the players' problem. Game day coaching decisions, player positions, player selection... It all contributes to the sometimes frenetic play on the field. They have come together at times, and it resulted in nice play, good results. I think it'll be marked down as "just one of those seasons ...".

I have heard from others that they seem to still be "tinkering" with where they are putting kids, and what the rotation is... one issue I have also heard is that kids are not being put in familiar roles, or positions.

 

As I said, I hope they get things worked out quickly.

I think if they would have played the way they played last night against Ryle, CCH, and NCC, they would have had a better chance at a win. I think the Trinity game was one of St Henry's best yet--despite the loss.

 

I'm typically not a "ref whiner", but I will say that there was some definite ineptness last night. Ref attention span very weak. Late whistles, confusion, etc.

St. Henry looked good at times. They have the ability to play well. They were the better team on the field last night. Brossart got lucky more than a few times with the ref rewarding floppers and imaginary fouls, and of course allowing the keeper to come off his line for the penalty kicks.
