Classical/Orchestral Music

Featured Replies

Just to name a few:

Mozart - The Marriage of Figaro, The Magic Flute, Symphony No. 41 in C major

Tchaikovsky - The Nutcracker, Swan Lake

Vivaldi - The Four Seasons,

JS Bach - Double Violin Concerto in D minor

Beethoven - The Fifth Symphony, The Ninth Symphony, Moonlight Sonata

I got hooked on Classical music back in my high school days in the early '80's. Every Sunday morning, before I went to church, WEBN used to play classic music until 12:00 noon. Then in 1984 seeing the movie "Amadeus" gave me an appreciation for Mozart's music. Finally when I went to NKU I took a class called Music Appreciation, we studied and listened to all the great composers and styles (Baroque, Romantic, etc...). As part of the class we had to take in performances at the University of Cincinnati's Corbett Auditorium.

I get strange looks from people when I tell them my musical tastes are 80's Big Hair & Classical. :lol2:

BTW, Colonels_Wear_Blue, are you finished copying all my classical CD's I gave you? :eyeonyou:

It wasn't until I took a "Classical Music Appreciation" class in college as an elective that I began to take notice of classical music. Over the course of the semester, I found that I tended to prefer composers from the "Romantic Era" most of all. Some of these would include Mozart (very early in the era), Chopin, Mendelssohn, and Wagner. Of the four mentioned, I probably prefer Wagner most of all (Lohengrin Prelude and Pilgrim's Chorus are two wonderful compositions that come to mind). Of course my preference of Wagner could have something to do with the fact that he was also my professor's favorite. And let us not forget it was Wagner who composed the "Wedding March"!!

I'm also a fan of pretty much everything James Horner has ever done.

Same for me.

Luckily I have them all downloaded on my computer, but wanted to give you the "business". :lol2:
