From what I have been told Mitchell can go, I have no idea about Bowling.

I follow Knights athletics and I must say I am not a believer of the system. I just do not think that Lex Catholic have the athletes to run that kind of fast pace offense. RB is good but we have to develope those wideout into a more explosive players. Hatton/ Thompson are a good possesion receivers, but they have to get some help from the others. Too many drops, drop that are TD's. Knights can not afford those come district play. And get healthy fast.

 

Confused by this, Catholic has been running the Spread offense for like 15 years. Only difference is now they don't huddle. I'll also add that JJ and Morris have been solid this year.

I don't think there is a problem with the system on offense. The numbers against quality opposition support that. On average they are over 400 yards a game of offense.

 

The biggest obstacle this season has been the injuries to key players. It's a part of the game but man we had all of our senior captains out in our last game. We don't have the talent or numbers to overcome that any year.

 

I love defense, there's no hiding that. I think injuries stink, but the way the way we have looked on that side makes me want to close my eyes. The system I feel could work with the teams from the past, but not this year. No pass rush, no discipline, and no nasty on that side. Poor tackling and penalties don't help us at all. I think the defense at best has got just bend but not break every time they take the field. No way we can keep a quality opponent in the 20's. So we have to step that up and find a way

If I was an opposing team D-coordinator and see that it's a read option, would all do respect to Ryan, he will not keep that ball. He will end up giving it too Jones. and just key on Jones. Ryan is too valuable to be running around and keeping that ball. Luckily enough Jones is a great back that he gains positive yards. Now if Thompson becomes the QB for next season, READ OPTION will be the offense for him. Well all know that he is a quick/ fast runner to keep the ball or read and hand it off to Jones. We ran read option while I was a player there under Letton. I do agree that it isn't the best offense with a pocket passer like Ryan but he is a good enough athlete to pick up yards at the high school level. I think the main problem from last week on offense was pass protection, the O-line did a fantastic job of run blocking but Reese was running for his life on dropbacks before he was concussed.

By the numbers LexCath should win this.

I think that agreement killed the program. And it is showing more and more each season. Yes it's fun to play one another but it killed the public schools eighth graders from joining LC as freshman. A lot of kids who would've enrolled ran as soon as they found out they had to sir their first season. So it kills the number of male players that we could have had. Plus even if you win or lose it you are playing a 6A school who you'll never see in the postseason l. And when we lose its a celebration. If we win we are supposed to or the margin had to be larger. To me that was the final nail in the coffin for our program.

I am very familiar with 'the agreement' - not sure if its in the form of a 'contract'.

 

As to football a player came in from West Jessamine into the program as a junior. He sat his junior year (per the agreement) and played his senior year. But this is also standard KHSAA transfer rule. Its the sports where middle schoolers can play up on varsity teams where the agreement has more impact. I am not sure of other sports and situations where the agreement has come into play.

 

If the thought is - has that agreement hurt LexCath? - I think it has not directly.

As noted #1 does not apply to football usually. #2 is a blanket rule and similar to KHSAA policy. #3 would only impact ability to play in varsity games (remain eligible for freshmen and JV). If we want to discuss further it may be appropriate for a separate thread.

Back to the game prediction.

 

The Knights had over 450 yards of offense last week and over 350 in rushing.

 

Andy Thompson was the leading rusher, receiver AND played QB the entire second half.

 

Jaylen Jones had over 150 yards rushing.

 

The Knights can move the ball - its punching it in that has been troublesome. Sam Letton's corner route was a killer from 25 yards in last year. But Sam is not walking back onto the field in a Knight uniform and the offense needs to figure out which plays are their 'go-to' plays in the red zone.

 

I think the offense is work in progress and will get better as the year goes on.

I have spoken with many who share the same sentiments. I think what will help the program in future is the way Coach Perry is attempting to revitalize the feeder programs all the way from flag football and up. It should pay dividends in the future.
