groinpull Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Wasn't as close as the score really as CCH got a lot of reserves in the game for a long time. 2-0 at half. NCC scores with maybe 15 mins left in the game on a throw-in/header. Set pieces have accounted for almost every goal against the Colonels this year. Other than that, I'm not sure NCC had another shot on goal. CCH goals by Ballow (2) and Pohlabeln. Freppon and Hensley played well for NCC but they were not really enough or close to it.

With about 22 minutes left Ncc scored off a throw in.( set pieces seem to be their bread and butter) with 20 seconds left and down 2-1 Ncc scores an own goal. Maybe the first Ncc goal in the run of play all year, according to the posts I've read. All in all CC was the better team and deserved the win, Ncc has some work to do if they plan to get out of their district lol....." Both teams played well....NCC does have some weapons.....great throw in......like a more controlled corner kick......hope the NCC player that went down is OK..... CCH subbed more this game than any this year.......response was first goal by Pohlabeln , who subbed in at right outside defender....second of the year. Second goal by Ballow who followed up a nice volley by Adam Flynn which deflected off the post. Ballow was in the right place with a very good low finish taking it out of the air. Third goal was the shot by Ballow that deflected off a defender ( I agree..not an own goal). NCC could not clear the ball after a great run and cross by Day and Ballow had a nose for the ball. Already reported the lone NCC goal came off a header on a throw in......apologies for not knowing players number......it was very nice form. I counted 3 shots on goal by NCC ....one which went in, but CCH keep had no chance. Nice job by the NCC keep.....very talented.
Oldtimebaseball84 Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 On the called back goal....Day was offsides but made no attempt at the ball.....instead, he took himself out of the play and Ballow received the ball and buried a left footer in the back of the net......ar called offsides but was on the other side of the field........IMHO, a mistake call.
flops&hacks Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 I don't have a dog in the fight From behind the benches, it looked to be an easy clear that was mis-hit into the goal by Ncc defender. Not sure about the offsides call.
Yellow Card Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 OTB84... I assume it was #11, Freppon. I am basing this off what I saw this past Saturday, when he played against Cooper. I also saw that earlier this year he had 3 assists against Holy Cross, all on throw-ins to Hensley.
dww2873 Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Not to toot my own horn, but I belive I correctly called the final score of this game in another thread...
Yellow Card Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Not to toot my own horn, but I belive I correctly called the final score of this game in another thread... I am sorry, although I saw your guess, my selective memory does not allow me to accept this as being true.
AliasJK Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 I went to this game last night. I wanted to see if all of the CCH follower’s excitement was for good reason. They are good. Not as good as the ’11 team, but could be. They have some work to do. I also wanted to see the vaunted midfield. After watching I have a little different take on this team. I’ll preface this by saying this is the only game I have seen this year, so take it for what it’s worth. I thought the strength of this team was up the middle. #10 up top was very good I thought. Very heady player. I didn’t see him do much wrong last night. (Now I was a little biased last night watching him. I have a friend whose son plays for McNick, and he told me the same thing and told me to watch for him.) #11 in the middle changes the game for this team. When he was out this team didn’t seem to have the same threatening feel. Not sure why he sat so long. #16 seemed to be everywhere in the middle. Only negative was his first touch at times. Blond center back (sorry I don’t remember his number) was as good, or better, than the two highly touted NCC backs. Now the midfield is very good and I don’t want anyone to think I am downplaying that… probably as some have said “best in state.” I don’t have any way to judge. However from the posts, I had the impression that outside of the midfield this was an average team. #12 outside mid had some very good play as well. The two outside backs played well overall I thought. As has been mentioned, they need to defend the set pieces better. That will haunt them in a close game, as I guess it did at Trinity.

I'd agree with most of what you say. To address a couple of your statements, I'd just note that regarding the CCH midfield, the starters were probably on the field together for about 15-20 mins total last night. Not sure you can judge much from last night nor compare to 2011 at this point so I would make those comparisons at the end of the year. As you noted, #11 (Bryce Day) sat on the bench for a long time, almost the entire second half. He is one of the most talented ball handlers in the state and when he was inserted w/ about 10 mins left, the Colonels tallied their 3rd goal off of his playmaking. #12 (Joe Schuh), #16 Parker Kenney and #5 (Rob Lilly) make up the rest of the CCH midfield. I'd guess they all played about half the game last night, mostly not at the same time. #10 (Patrick Ballow) is the Colonels most consistent player up top I think and has good ability with his back to the goal, holding the ball and distributing it. #23 (Michael Wessels) is the CCH center back and I would agree with your assessment, he has been strong and consistent the last three games especially.
EQUUS GREVYI Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Let's be honest, the third goal was scored with 12 seconds remaining on a weak roller that the NCC keeper was in position to gather. The defender touched the ball deflecting it over the keeper's head. It appeared to be an unfortunate lack of communication in the waning seconds of the game rather than a product of outstanding offensive play.

What's your point?

I was on the far end of the field and couldn't see exactly how it ended up in the goal so you may be right but there is no doubt how it came to be in front of the goal and that was Day driving down the sideline through the NCC defense. The end of the play may have happened as you say but he definitely put the ball in that position.
