NDA vs Scott

Featured Replies

NDA 25-18, 25-8, 25-16. NDA looked a little nervous with 3 new starters but settled down to win.

New coaches and new speed of play is a learning process, but the talent will win.

Beating top teams will also take a little luck but can be done.

Agreed, hope they can convert that athleticism into an offensive force by the end of the year when the games count

Nice article in paper today about ND player choosing between Stanford and Penn State.......go West young lady.

NDA had more than three new players in the lineup:

Only Salkowski, Hentz and Thelen played any significant time last year.

Knaley, Draud, Von Handorf, Talkers and H. Colvin all new to Varsity play. Von Handorf saw a little action last year but nothing significant and not as libero. New Setter, New Libero and New OH....I think they had every reason to be a bit nervous.

The bigger worry continues to be who else besides Hentz can terminate for this team. I am not a coach but I don't understand why Thelen and Salkowski aren't swinging on the outside or opposite out of serve receive? They both hit with power and the connection with Talkers in the middle is just not there yet. Hentz was their only side out power. The two ball that Hentz hits, makes the crowd oooh and ahhh but will be easily defended by the Mercy's and Assumption's of the world. It works against teams with less height and less experience but not against the big boys.

Anyway, just my two cents. I hope Buck starts to think outside the box a bit on his serve receive patterns and plays. Creativity in coaching will get this team more wins as they are not going to over power anyone.

Just curious..who's play outside opposite of Morgan in the current line up?

Sophomore, Sarah Draud.

Once NDA plays a good team, they are going to find out that they will need more than Hentz. Setting a 2 ball in the middle can be very risky when you play teams with big blocks, especially since you can easily triple block a 2 ball. Hentz can only carry the team so far.

Also, off-blocker defense will be slightly weak with Draud on the outside. I'm assuming many teams will exploit that weakness. If anyone beats NDA, it's going to be by blocking Hentz and hitting the ball at the other defensive players besides Hentz. Any smart coaching staff will easily recognize that and capitalize on it.

People already doubting NDA this season has me guessing that they are a lot more vulnerable and weak than earlier posts portrayed.
