Good, hard-hitting matchup last night in Somerset. Garrard was in command early, scoring on two drives that included a long run from Jacob Foley and a touchdown pass from Slade Crutchfield to JT Lyon. Southwestern (I didn't have a program and don't know their names, sorry) then scored on a nice little out pass that a kid took about 75 yards. Garrard was driving again when Southwestern's defensive end picked off a pass and took it for a touchdown. Garrard again had a long drive to score, and then Southwestern drove for a field goal just before half time. On the opening drive of the second half, Southwestern had their best drive of the night, marching down the field for another field goal to take the lead. It was a stalemate after that and the JV/Freshmen played the fourth quarter.

Both teams looked really solid, albeit a little bit vanilla, which is often expected in a scrimmage. I still believe Garrard will be very strong, especially defensively. Southwestern was shaky early but played much better as the game wore on. I don't see them beating Pulaski or Madison Southern, but I think they'll have a really nice season.

How is this season looking for Garrard?

I think they'll be pretty good. Almost entirely new staff, but lots of experience returning. Garrard is big and pretty fast. It should be a very interesting year.

How did the QB look for Southwestern?

About what i thought. Both teams will be much improved and both will get better as the season goes on as result of coaching changes.

How did the QB look for Southwestern?

Not bad. He didn't have to do too much, though. Threw the short pass well. They didn't connect on anything long, but didn't try many either.

How did SW RB look, he moved over from Somerset this season.

Really good. Was the best offensive player for Southwestern, by far.

That's what I figured, I hated that they jumped ship and went cross town.

I think the results of this scrimmage also paints a positive light for Garrard.

I think everyone knows Southwestern will be an improved 5A team and for GC to go toe to toe tells me the Golden Lions should field a very ncie product.
