Is (was) there a town in Grant County called Mason?

Featured Replies

Trying to find if Mason consolidated with Corinth, Crittenden and Dry Ridge in the fall of 1953 to form Grant County High. I have confirmed the latter three, but have not been able to find out about the school in the town of Mason.

Mason is between Corinth and Williamstown on US 25. Played my first competitive game in that school. It had become just an elementary school and i was in the 5th grade. The first shot i ever took in a game and i shot it over the backboard. THe difference in parents today and back then. My dad told me not to shoot again unless it was a lay-up.

Per the Kentucky High School Basketball Encyclopedia, the Mason Wildcats played from the 1927-28 season through the 1952-53 season, when in fact Mason High School merged with Corinth, Crittenden and Dry Ridge to form Grant County.

(Williamstown coach: Delbert Walden--6)

(last year for Corinth, Crittenden, Mason & Dry Ridge...which became Grant Co. & moved to Region 10, District 38)

1954

Augusta 72, Falmouth 50 Coach: Cecil Hellard--8

Bracken County 86, Grant County 74 Coach: Gene Robinson--1

Mt. Olivet Deming 69, Morgan 58 Coach: Richard Gulick--11/12

Williamstown 56, Butler (Pendleton Co.) 54 Coach: Hershel Turner--3

Bracken County 80, Augusta 60 Coach: William Pile--2/5

Bracken County 65, Williamstown 63 Coach: Delbert Walden--7

(Bracken County record: 25 - 8; coach: Jarvis Parsley--13)

I'd love to know the enrollment numbers for each school.

We checked. The KHSAA did not keep those numbers back then...but the State School Board (very probably) would have. Maybe...one of these days...that will be another place for us to dig.
