Pike County Central Coaching Job

WYMT is reporting that Pike County Central head coach John Paul Chapman has resigned as Pike Count Central head coach and will join head coach Jordan Aims at Perry County Central.

So does Chapman still have to sit out the first game of the season due to getting ejected at the end of the season last year? I think his suspension was 3 games which 2 of those were served last season.

I just saw this. Wow late in the game to find head coach now.

Jordan said that Chapman had just signed his contract with Perry Central and that he would be Jordan's top defensive coach.

I'd say that Pike Central will go the interim route since we're just a little over a month away from the beginning of the season.

Typical Chapman.

Guy has the moral fiber of a sea slug.

If you are PCC you have to be thrilled to get such a seasoned coach with big game and Championship experience to go along with your painfully young HC, but at the same time the last 10-15 years drama has followed Chapman every step of the way.

People still regard him as a defensive mastermind from his Championship tenure at Breathitt County, but as the HC at Pike Central the Hawks did not field a single competitive defense.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out. He leaves a Pike Central team high and dry that was very ripe with talent and experience.

Who gives up a HC job to be a DC? I thought it would be the other way around......moving up the ladder, not down.

If he was under pressure to resign by the administration, shame on them for not forcing this move much sooner. Hopefully there is someone on staff that can keep those kids focused as we near the beginning of camp.

As I said.. where Chapman has went drama has followed.

Ever since he initially left Breathitt he was a polarizing figure at Pikeville when his son transferred there. He was brought to Pike Central when then Pike County Superintendent Roger Wagner was at his post, and offered a surprisingly large price tag. From Day 1 his very vocal mission was "beat Belfry" and there were no secrets Wagner was instrumental in bringing him in just to do that.

I have said it before, and will say it again, that seemingly Belfry then became Chapman's "Moby Dick". Everything that program did was about building up to Belfry, everything they talked about was beating Belfry, and it never happened.

Chapman's tenure began with the Boggs kid and the Shouse kid transferring to follow him. This led to a KHSAA investigation and sanctions. Along the way it seemed every time Chapman coached against Belfry he was "trying too hard". Pike Central commonly wilted under the pressure and Chapman had numerous eruptions on the sideline, costly penalties, and eruptions with fans.

The closest PC ever came was in 2009 against the weakest Belfry team of the past decade. PC led until late when Belfry came back to win, and iced it thanks to a Chapman tirade that cost his team 30 critical yards continuing a Belfry drive.

When Haywood, one of the most admired Coaches in State History, set the All-Time wins mark it was against Pike Central and Chapman refused to even congratulate the Coach after the game fuming over a close game that was broken open late.

In 2012 Pike Central was "down" and Breathitt (Chapman's former school) was "up" and undefeated awaiting a huge re-match with Belfry. Pike Central has exclusively ran out of the spread Chapman's entire tenure, yet for some reason Chapman ran Belfry's flexbone offense the entire game..seemingly trying to help Breathitt prepare to play Belfry the next week.

Wagner is now gone as Superintendent and Chapman continues to get crushed by Belfry. There have been rumors every off-season the past few years that Chapman was looking to get out, and when the PCC Head Coaching job opened he was openly pursuing it. Pike Central has a talented and veteran team this year with a bumper crop of talent coming in as Freshmen... but Belfry is loaded and with an even stouter Sophomore and Freshman class.

It may be a case that a guy who cut his teeth as one of the State's Most Respected Coordinators has simply became fed up with being the guy in the spotlight. The other thought is that Chapman has given up on his mission when he was hired and has finally let Moby Dick swim off before he kills himself trying.

Typical Chapman.......Amis had better watch his back in the near future with Chapman....

You never know about Chapman.
