Clay Birdwhistell named Anderson Co head coach

Featured Replies

Made official this week Clay Birdwhistell has been named head coach at Anderson County! Great basketball mind and arguably was the best asst in the state for AC the last 6-7 years! Great hire for AC! Good luck to Clay!

This is good news. Congrats to Clay and best of luck. Justice is served.

Enlighten those of us who don't know who this is.....

Birdwhistell has been the right hand man for Coach Kays the last 6-8 years. Very instrumental in the building of Andersons program from the middle school level and made it an easy transition for those girls to come up and play varsity.

I was sitting next to Clay (when he was the Anderson Middle School coach) the first time he scouted Eriel McKee in rec league as a fourth or fifth grader.

A few years later, with what would end being the nucleus of the past four or five ACHS teams, he won a middle school state title.

He built that feeder program up from the ground and has dedicated his life to coaching these girls.

Couldn't have happened to a better person.

I saw them play at Campbellsville last week. Seemed young but played GRC well and beat a pretty good large county team.
