Basketball season for 2014/2015 should provide another exciting year. What should we expect from Sayre Remember, please be constructive.

Sayre was 18-10 last year, a very solid year. They lose a lot, including their leading scorer and playmaker Justin Sanders. Still, they return Quinn Pergande who is in the 6'6" - 6'7" range and is pretty darn good (in his list of the top returning players in the 11th region, JokersWild24 has Pergande as one of the players "just missing the cut" as a top 15 player in the region). The key will be who steps up to compliment Pergande.

I've seen Sayre a couple of times this past year and this summer. It is true they lose quite a bit. The Pergande kid can play. He will cause a lot of problems for teams this year, as he is able to put ball on floor well for a 6-7 kid. They had a very good freshman class, beat LCA, Tates Creek, Lafayette, among others. Great young guards. One is coaches son, I believe, Goodman(shooter), and other Silverburg(quick). While they will be young this year, they were well coached and competed with some good teams in June. I understand they have a good group of freshman for next year as well, including Dakari's brother, Bowie's son and another quick quard. Not sure they will be able to compete with the big boys this year, but the future sure looks good.

It seems like Sayre has been trying to build a sustainable program for awhile. If I'm not mistaken, both Dakari Johnson and Christen Cunningham were there at one time. Would have been one of the better teams in the 11th two years ago if they'd have had Dakari, Cunningham, Sanders, and Pergande, at least you'd have to think.

 

Sounds like another solid group of youngsters are there with Bowie's son and Dakari's younger brother. Will be interesting to see if they develop and end up staying there. I know Sayre is a really nice school and has a lot of things that make it an attractive destination but admittedly, I haven't seen as much of them as most other teams in the 11th.

Christen Cunningham, Dakari Johnson, and Jordan Green made up a Sayre 6th grade team that won the KBA state tournament a while back. Would be a nice what-if, if those 3 and Mike Smith stay at Sayre through high school.

Knew I was forgetting some names. I had forgotten about Green but knew about Smith too. Sayre always seems to have one or two kids who could play serious minutes for almost anyone in the 11th as is. It'd definitely have been something to see if they were even able to keep 3/4ths of that team together.
