I do think, however, not acknowledging the Conservative extreme is a bit short sighted. Whether you identify them as a Conservative isn't really going to weigh much in the overall scheme of things. I don't think like the liberal extreme, but many Conservative posters on this board like to lump me into the "you liberals" category when the extremes are discussed. Gotta take it all.

No, just because somebody falsely claims to be a conservative on the campaign trail does not mean that we should accept them into the conservative tent.

 

Elected officials like John McCain, Lindsey Graham, and many other Republicans are erroneously (if not intentionally) identified as conservatives by the media all of the time but they disparage true conservatives like Ted Cruz at every opportunity. I will admit that my opinion is just that - an opinion, but it is one shared by millions of conservatives in this country.

 

I see the far right as being libertarians and that is where I see myself as belonging. There is nothing extreme about advocating limited government, strict adherence to our Constitutional principles, and protection of both economic and personal liberty.

 

Using the threat of force to redistribute wealth from those who earned it to those who refuse to provide for themselves and their families is extreme. That is exactly where Obama stands and unfortunately, so do many Republican leaders.

Oh, believe me, I am. I don't have the college experience that you have, but just the life I've lived and observing the world around me and those who live in it have shaped my views. And I was raised by a father who would take nothing from the government, but literally give the shirt off his back to someone in need. He was also the smartest man I've ever known, prone to putting himself in another's shoes.

I'll just do a two for one reply - plain and simple guys - I have the degrees. Going through school teaches you about a variety of different cultures and a variety of different experiences. Diversity is very high in the college atmosphere.

 

Professors have at the least a master's degree, most have doctorate degrees. I mean, are you really going to discount somebody who has a doctorate?

 

Thus, look at how a lot of professors tend to lean Democrat and have increased education and are more open-minded and tolerant than most Republicans. That is where my views really evolved, college.

Armed robbery by one's own government is about more than dollars. One cannot enjoy true freedom without economic freedom. This country was not founded as an mechanism to redistribute wealth.

What's so bad about redistributing wealth? It's the greedy rich people that will end up wasting the money somehow anyways. The taxes have to be paid somehow, so might as well tax those who make a lot of money. They won't miss it a bit anyways.
