Can't disagree with that statement. After all, if a player is getting good looks, you can't really credit the defense. If they are taking highly contested shots, then the D is doing a great job.

 

The only problem is that neither describe the situation in that game. As I said, Henderson did play solid D. Where I think his D was a factor was more in the backcourt as Tyler was trying to bring the ball up the floor (as referenced by Purple Pride). They ended up having other players bring it up. But, the star player here really didn't have that scorer's mentality that he normally has - for whatever reason. And I'm not a Boyle homer. Just calling it as I saw it.

Sometimes players just aren't as focused as they should be for a particular game for whatever reason. Players like Tyler are always a factor even if they're 'off' because they demand their opponent's attention and usually their best defender, series of defenders or even double & triple teaming. How much a player who is 'off' hurts his team depends on how well he adapts his game and brings his teammates into the game by giving them the opportunities that all the extra attention to him brings about. Sometimes you gotta give the rock up and let your teammate get the job done.

The great ones don't force the issue and do what they can to allow their teammates to pick up the slack as opposed to being a hinderance. Last night his teammates picked him up.

Hagen had a rough game. He gets alot of buckets from moving without the ball and setting his defender up. Henderson face guarded him the entire game and did a great job on him. Still gotta find a way to get loose. Started standing and not moving without ball and got frustrated. Look for him to really step his game up against Wayne and come out firing. His teammates picked him up against West Jess but it's going to take a vintage Hagen Tyler game to beat wayne co. Problem is Wayne Co has a defender in Jason Perkins that is just like Will Henderson and u know Rodney Woods is going to try and do something to slow Hagen down. Last game he went Box and 1 and triangle and 2. Should be a a great game
