Rams turn to Salmons as football coach

Zack Klemme

The Independent

RACELAND — Coming off its best season in school history, Raceland is turning to the “Orange Crusher” to take the Rams even deeper into future postseasons.

Michael Salmons, so dubbed on the cover of The Independent’s 1998 football preseason preview tab before his senior season as a Raceland fullback and defensive lineman, was introduced Friday afternoon to the Rams as their new head football coach.

He replaces T.J. Maynard, who left to coach Russell after skippering Raceland to an 11-3 record and its first region championship last fall.

Like Maynard, Salmons is taking the reins of his alma mater, and he’s very excited about it.

Very nice article, write up.

A New Era of Raceland Football Has Started....One With the Same Lofty Expectations - Even Higher Now With A Region Championship !

very nice artice. Rams will keep rolling and personally I hope to see them get to the top of that mountain in 14!

Congrats to Coach Salmons and Raceland Rams Football Players and Family. I just heard about this from my wife and niece this week and I am so proud of Coach Salmons and his family. I know his uncle "Coop Dog" would be very proud and again will definitely be on the scoreboard for everyone of Racelands football games. I hope to make the trip down in August to see his first game as a head coach. Good Luck to my Raceland Rams family and friends JD.

With the new proposed 1A alignment, the expectations on our program and new coach will be very high.

Expectations from fans or the administration?

Great read. Good luck to the Rams and their new coach!

This is what I like to read.

This needs to be the goal from day one. NOTHING ELSE!

“We feel like our program is knocking on the door of another level,” Salmons said. “Our goal starting Monday and starting day one is to play for a state championship in Bowling Green."

Everyone.

Expectations from fans or the administration?

Our school district expects excellence every year. It is just intensified starting in 2015.

Expectations are always high no matter if it's football or barrel racing. Some will never understand it, only try to stop it. I tell them to keep trying, it only intensifies the resolve.

New alignment means many region titles likely for Coach Salmons and the Rams. He will do a great job.

Every baby, toddler, child, teenager, student, alum's, cousins, nephew, nieces, aunt, uncle, parent and grandparents, distant relatives, dogs, cats.....any living human or animal (some are both ) in Raceland / Worthington. :lol2:

Thank you and as you know coach Salmons has lived, loved, eats, drinks and sleeps RAM FOOTBAL. I feel confident that he will do a fine job. He is an alum, former outstanding player, fan, asst. coach, "O" coordinator and now head coach.

The Raceland / Worthington community I know are happy and proud of one of our own (as was R. Vanderhoof and T.J Maynard's family). Expectations are certainly high but absolutely will not "surprise" or " intimidate" Coach Salmons as they have a couple of coaches in years ago.
