Ugly game. No points scored for the first 5 minutes. Waggener was very deliberate and held the ball for over a minute every possession in the first half but made costly turnovers and couldn't overcome Trinity's height in the paint. The second half they picked the tempo up some and Trinity started hitting shots.

Waggoner's first regional appearance since 1998.

Gross. Was following on Twitter during the first half. Sounded awful. At one point Spalding was knocking away everything. Does anyone know how many blocks he ended the game with? I thought I saw he had six at halftime.

 

Really would like to see another game with St. X.

 

Trinity hasn't played Eastern this season, so that could be an interesting matchup, although I'd say Trinity has a pretty clear advantage over any of the district runners-up in the pot.

Waggener was another one of those "victim of alignment" teams for a long time, in the way Christian Academy is now. Before the current alignment (in which they've admittedly had some down years and Seneca's had some good years), they were in consecutive alignments with 1) Ballard and Trinity and 2) Ballard and Eastern. Tough districts to get out of; even before Trinity's recent massive success, they were still putting really good teams on the floor.

My preferences for regional draw are Eastern in the first round so we can plat at Steinhauser and guarantee Ballard on the other side of the bracket. Second choice would be Waggener playing Ballard off the bat (see above) with us playing X (at Bellarmine) and getting used to a large hostile crowd.

Well Trinity did draw St. Xavier. If the rumor is true they are going to play it at Bellarmine........that is a BIG BIG BIG mistake by Trinity to give up the home court advantage.
