Buying out contracts

Featured Replies

I have seen where several teams are buying out contracts. Is this usually the norm.

I have heard Whitley Co has bought out Morristown East and Boyle Co. If so, how do you feel about that practice of dodging teams.

Most contracts have a "buy out clause". Many of the contracts I am familiar with are $500 to buy out, don't know about the price for others.

I don't think all the games that are bought out are about teams dodging other teams, there are other reasons. But, if either teams doesn't like the practice, don't put the buy out clause in the contract.

It's a touchy subject, b/c most of the time...well, all of the time...the only ones getting upset are the better of the two programs. Why? Guaranteed win. Whereas, if said team was schedule to play a BG, T, X, Highlands, etc and one of them backed out for a more lucrative offer somewhere else; then there wouldn't be any hard feelings at all.

Then comes the argument of, "Well, why did you agree/sign to play in the first place?" Which I agree with that, too.

most football contracts that I have seen hover around the $5000 dollar range (or more) due to the amount of gate & concession that you stand to lose if you cant replace that game.

If you want to get your panties in a wad over someone buying out of a contract then don't put a buy out clause in. If they won't agree to sign the contract without one don't sign the contract. Make both parties sign that if either backs out the game will be declared a forfeit.

If you want to discourage the clause being used then make the fee so onerous that it would not be financially prudent to exercise it.

It happens more then some people realize and usually not with the "fanfare" that the recent BG buy out came with.

Yup, staying away from that buyout clause could solve the problem.
