All I am trying to say is that if your kid is a high level player as an 8th grader, you are way better off playing on your SWOL National team or your tournament only team..The competition is a ton better than playing on a frosh baseball team. It is not even close between the two..

 

And I think for the most part, those high level 8th graders pretty much bypass Frosh baseball anyway, either playing varsity (if the school district lets them play up) or stick with their SWOL team (if they play National League Level). I do know that some that play mid level SWOL (American League) do manage to play both as the demands aren't as great at that level.

No comparison between frosh baseball and travel. If they can play on a high level 13u team, much better off. Even if an 8th grader can make a JV team, I still go with 13u travel option. As an 8th grader, my son played in the Atlanta Braves spring training site, played in East Cobb, and at the battle of the south. Can't take those memories away.

Ohio has the rule where 8th graders are not allowed to play high school baseball. At 14U SWOL will start their season at the same time as the high school programs. So the NKY 8th graders that play for the Ohio teams either skip the frosh games and practice when the schedule conflicts or they just don't play. As an experienced travel baseball coach of 16 plus years, I just didn't start my schedule until after the NKY high season was over. This way the kids got to play high school and have the experience and the school did most of the preseson prep for my summer teams. On the same note the very talented 8th graders stuck with the SWOL Ohio because as a previous poster stated the talent level was better, which I agree.
