Sure there is an explanation. Winter weather disrupting practice schedules. Teams playing games w/o having practiced in a week. Caatholic schools still practice during severe weather because they have no transportation liability. Publics do not.

Friend, did you ever say a mouthful with your last few sentences. The playing field is not level for schools that have "no go = no play/practice" policies. It's not even close. Some districts have a "no Sunday" policies, too. In Indiana, (the IHSAA) has a state-wide "no Sunday" rule - period.

The KHSAA would do well to consider this and open up meaningful and open-minded discussions on this particular topic. Fair is fair, and the way it is now is not equitable at all. And speaking of liability, I cannot imagine that the KHSAA would not be named in any/all litigation that would occur if/when an accident took place. Therefore, it makes sense that the KHSAA might take preemptive steps to head this off.

Don't get me started on this topic. :isurrender::lol2:

As far as Liability/litigation........The final say so is with parents.....if they deem it "unsafe" then they can keep their son or daughter home.

Jesse James,

Not buying the hype on Bullitt East. Dropped four of their last 10, including losses to unranked North Hardin (which Elizabethtown crushed twice) and unranked South Warren (although SW is 21-7). None of BE's last six wins have been all that impressive. Guess I'm just surprised BE hasn't really fallen. I'm not saying they shouldn't be ranked, but I think they're more of a 18-19-20 team at this point.

retropop,

You think the KHSAA should ban Sunday practices? Might as well get rid of Monday games then, because many coaches I know want to practice the day before a game.

If a district has a "No Sunday" rule, then it is shooting its OWN self in the foot. That has NOTHING to do with the KHSAA not being fair. It's no different than some districts not allowing talented middle schoolers to play up when other districts thrive with them (girls' hoops, softball, cross country, lower-weights boys' wrestling are the notable sports where MS kids are big factors).

KHSAA gives each district a CHOICE to do what it wants on Sunday and that's considered an "unequitable" or "unlevel" playing field?

Sorry, I can't agree with that.

As far as practice during severe weather, that's NOT a state-wide public school rule. Some notable public districts in the Hardin County area still practiced (although didn't hold it against kids who couldn't make it).

Some public districts have a "no school, no play" rule. JCPS in Louisvill being the biggie. However, some public districts do NOT have that rule (Hardin County, which borders Jefferson, being one). Meade, which borders Jefferson, does not have that policy either. While it is good intentioned, rational folks know the road conditions are going to be quite different for a few buses at afternoon/night for a 7 p.m. basketball game compared to a lot of buses on the road at 6 in the morning picking up kids. Huge difference, but some -- not all -- public districts fail to take that into consideration. That's THEIR fault, not the KHSAA.

Public schools themselves are partly to blame for the unequitable playing field. As I've pointed out:

- Sunday practices/games

- Middle school kids playing up

- Practice during weather

Vary from district to district. It's NOT a public/private thing. It's a district-to-district thing.

Not sure why the KHSAA has to step in and make a blanket rule on everything.

Yeah, what do the coaches know? NDA loses to Holmes and struggles to beat BW in overtime, but they are #1 in the coaches poll? PLEASE!!!!!

Who would you have at number 1?

Who would you have at number 1?

You can judge for yourself tomorrow!

SK is 3rd in the local NKY coaches poll, but you have them 4th in the state. But hey, what do the coaches know?

That's why none of the local NKY coaches are ranking here.........and its not "you" that decides this totally. There are many more involved, BUT no homers.

But I have yet to hear from you who needs to be higher or lower? Its easy to say something is wrong and offer nothing other than "^what he said" . Come out and play, give us your team.

I most likely won't be able to make the game due to softball tryouts, but now I know what corner you're in. But regardless of the outcome tomorrow, they were still beaten handily by NCC. So to say anyone has an unchallenged right to number one would not be right. Not saying you did. All three of those teams have arguments. And what if, just if, HHS happens to beats SK tomorrow. Hypothetically! Then who is number one? A win over NCC and SK would be pretty strong!

what he said too

I don't think there is a clear cut favorite of a #1 ranked team this year. Last year was easy with Marion County being the favorite from start to finish.

This year no one team has consistently played well over the course of the season, so ranking them has been tough. This year it is setting up to be very interesting finish because I think there will be some big upsets in districts and regionals. Some top teams might not make it to the sweet 16.
