12th Region Freshman

Featured Replies

Does anybody know how well the Freshman class has looked this year in the 12th Region?

Trevon Faulkner is an 8th grader who has started for Mercer County's varsity team at times this season.

Noah Young is a freshman from Lincoln County who has a promising future.

West Jessamine has a kid I think is named Isaiah who I think is the best freshman I have seen this year.

West Jessamine and Lincoln County are the two best freshman teams I have seen this year. In that order.

I have seen Boyle, West, East, Lincoln, Casey and Mercer from the 12th Region. The Freshman Regional tourney is next week so I'll hopefully see more freshman teams next weekend.

Smith from Casey is probably the best freshman in the region. Started at guard for Casey all year and I'm guessing he's averaging around 12 or so?? I believe they have 2 other freshmen that start for them as well, including the other guard named Miller.

Forgot about them. Colin Miller is one of the names.

Yes, he's the other guard for Casey. Good combo.

From those you mentioned, who would be your top 4 teams to win that tournament next weekend?

Not sure. West and Lincoln are the two best teams I have seen but I haven't seen Somerset, Pulaski County, Southwestern, Wayne County, McCreary or Rockcastle so I can't give an informed answer.

Sounds like a solid class for the 12th. Going to be interesting to see how it plays out.

You really can't read too much into the freshman or JV regional tournaments. Some of the best freshmen don't play freshman ball at all - they are playing varsity or JV only.

It's not so much about the results but how teams look. I don't think Mercer County will win the tournament but I think they have a pretty solid freshman class. Same for West Jessamine and Lincoln County. I look forward to seeing how the teams that are there look.

I think West Jessamine has a 7th grader on their freshman team who is a solid contributor to the team.

Boyle County starts two 8th graders on tehir freshman team and 2 other 8th graders see significant time.

I was told Southwestern starts two 8th graders on varsity so I imagine we won't see them in the freshman tournament but those are two solid players who we will hear from for a while.

The two freshman for Casey County could be the two best freshman in the region and we won't see them next weekend. I'll also add that Casey County has multiple 7th graders on their freshman team.

How much better would Mercer County's freshmen be if they had Trevon Faulkner?

It's not so much about results but how is the future of the 12th Region looking.

Landon Powell-Somerset

Hunter Cromer-Southwestern

Payton Gover-Pulaski Co.

All 3 start varsity or have started varsity at some point in the season. Payton Gover had 32pts vs. Southwestern earlier in the year and Landon Powell averages around 8 pts a game.

What is Payton Gover's relation to Taylor Gover?

Cousins, his dad is the Pulaski Coach.

Thanks. I figured they were brothers or cousins.

One thing that will be interesting to see come next weekend is how well each team plays efficient on both defense and offense. At that level, you really want kids to buy into playing hard, and listening. Its a big step coming straight from middle school.
