Wow underachieving again this year with a new coach! Is that the new coaches fault

too? A weak schedule, 7-9 record, 5 seniors and all of that 'Ryle" talent!! Not to mention

a coach that the " Clyde" wrote a recommendation for. Who do we blame now that Mullins

is gone?

I DID indeed write a letter of recommendation and I'd do it again today. He can coach AND communicate effectively. I liked Alan. Played ball against Alan. Good dude to me. However, it was apparent a change was needed. It happens. Saw it with Coach Listerman at CCH. Saw it with Bryson. Sometimes you just need a fresh face.

 

I don't care how many seniors there are on the team. It's a decent team at best with limited scoring options.

 

Lastly, hiring a coach is never about one year.

I Agree Clyde. My kid plays JV and limited varsity minutes. He loves the new coaching staff. McFarland relates to the kids very well and has made a more than valiant attempt to get them to gel and bond as a team. He will do well and have success in the long run.

It is his first year and at Ryle and all are excited about a change just like when Mullins

took over for Niemi . When the loses pile up with the thin talent pool Ryle has coming up

the pattern will continue at Ryle. At Ryle it is never a lack of talent it is the coaching,

or the coach is too hard, being mean to the players, there is a lack of interest, etc.

Time will tell but my prediction is young McFarland will be no different than the many

team sport coaches that have been run off or quit because of the "toxic atmosphere"

at Ryle. I wish McFarland well because he is a great young coach and teacher but

at Ryle that does not matter. Make the wrong people mad and the letter writing and

meetings begin. It is soon a matter of what have you done for me

lately and how well you give in to the parents.

The many team coaches ? Actually there are only 3 team coaches left at Ryle

after the past year:

The baseball coach who has been there since the school has opened

and has the AD as his assistant coach. The Volleyball Coach who has

been there about 10 years and never won a Regional Championship, and the Boys

Soccer Coach who has been very successful in his 9 years. However,

I believe he was suspended a couple of years ago due to complaints

brought forth by parents.

Wiebrink in track and cross country, Bates in tennis, Collins in tennis, Deaton in track and cross country, Thornton in golf, very sadly we lost long-time Coach Bailie in swimming unexpectedly. I may have forgot a coach or two. We have great new coaches in Jackson and McFarland in basketball, who I believe will be at Ryle a long time, Milburn in softball and Engler in football. I love our coaching staff and parents at Ryle.

Those are all coaches of individual sports!! Totally different dynamic coaching a

team sport and a individual sport. Parents can not complain about playing time

in an individual sport . PT and their child's place within the sport or event comes

down to a time in track, score in golf, one on one competition in practice such as in wrestling and tennis. In a team sport, lots of intangibles and the subjective opinion of a coach. End result lots of parental opinions of where their child should be playing and how much they should be used

on a team. Not to mention the X's and O's that everyone knows better. Time will tell how long these new TEAM sport coaches last at Ryle. If they are parent-friendly,are easy going , and are willing to listen to the parents then they might last if they like coaching like that.

Here we go again with the parents running the show. I swear I wish my kids didn't play sports. Let the coaches coach people!

So you are complaining about too many new coaches, yet in your post you hint around about another coach who shouldn't be there because of no regional championships and you finish it all off with the creme de la creme and what has been the biggest problem at Ryle High School when it comes to athletics. That is the proof that the parents run the roost.

HB, opinions are not proof. My opinions are opposite of ILTBB and they are not proof of anything. I am heavily involved at Ryle. Obviously, ILTBB speaks from close personal experience as one heavily involved at Ryle and we disagree. My opinion is that the coaching changes that have been made were justified (other than I cannot speak to dance - LOL.)

I didn't mean to lump you all into one group and you are correct. I also thought the coaching changes were a good thing.

 

I just found some of his comments have been the root of one of the bigger issues at the school.

Sorry if you misunderstood me. In no way was I hinting the Volleyball Coach should not

be at Ryle. She is a great coach and person, has won a lot of games, and most importantly

at Ryle has not had a lot of parent issues. Would love for my child to play for her.

Made the point to SS because in an earlier post he said Warner was fired because of

his losing record the last 2 seasons. You do not fire one coach because of a losing

record who was 12-2 won the Region a year before that and keep a coach that has never won a Regional Championship. At Ryle it comes down to who gets along best with the parents and

has the less controversy, end of story. The 3 coaches who have remained have done

that plus won enough games, IMO.
