Lafayette 62 Dunbar 55

Featured Replies

Big game from Davis in this one, 30/17.

Mildly surprised by the margin. Sounds like Dunbar was able to muck this one up and make it a low scoring affair.

This was the second meeting of the season between the two teams. Lafayette won the first game in early December convincingly at Laffayette. The score was 19-10 Lafayette after the first quarter. Dunbar had 12 turnovers and gave up 6 offensive rebounds alone in that quarter. Dunbar finally got things unde control and the margin remained 9 at the half. Tough shooting night for Darius Williams, especially in the 1st half. Jackson Davis had an outstanding 1st half with 18 points and a couple thunderous dunks. He really hurts teams on the offensive boards more then anything.

The 3rd quarter was pretty much a stalemate with Dunbar getting to the line more and Lafayette struggling to shoot from the outside against the Dunbar zone. Williams got things going a little more in the 3rd and hit some jump shots. Lafayette led by 7 after the 3rd quarter. The 4th quarter was much of the same as the 3rd quarter. Lafayette never led by more then 9-10 and Dunbar never got closer then 4-5 until the last 2 minutes of the game. Dunbar down 8 got a 3 from Trey Penney to cut the lead to 5. Again using some 3-2 zone Dunbar down 5 with a 1:20 to was able to get a missed shot from Lafayette and a rebound. After Williams missed a jumper in the lane. Dunbar collected the offensive rebound and kicked out to Donnie Lewis who stroked a 25 footer to cut the lead to 2 with :48 left. Lafayette came down and ran some clock until Robinson was fouled with around :25 remaining. He was able to hit both free throws to extend the lead to 4 points for Lafayette. Dunbar out of timeouts came down and Williams missed a 3 and Dunbar never had another serious threat to win the game.

Overall a very sloppy grinder of a game. Jackson Davis finished with 30 points and 17 rebounds for Lafayette. Dequise Robinson finished with 11 points for the Generals all in the second half including 7-8 from the line. For the Bulldogs Darius Williams finished with 20 on a night where he really never got in the flow or shot the ball very well. Taeveion Hollingsworth finished with 15 for the Bulldogs, including 13 in the second half for the Freshmen.

I will say this year is by far the most wide open the 11th region has been in a long time. I will agree that Scott County and Lafayette are the top two teams in the region but the gap between those 2 teams and about 7 other teams is not as wide as some make it out to be. With other results around the region in recent weeks I think this is very evident.

With this win Lafayette secured the 1 seed in the 43rd district tournament. PLD, LCA, and Lexington Catholic are all tied for the 2-4 seed. There are still a lot of games left to play within the district and could end with all kinds of different tie breaking situations. Should be an interesting finish to the season and a great district tournament.

Lafayette is one bad shooting night against a zone in the playoffs for an early exit. They really struggle against zones. They aren't great shooters but Davis can carry them if he stays out of foul trouble.
