I'll be honest...I usually just do the interviews and highlights and don't handle much of the set up but I believe we use:

 

Laptop

Mixer

Portable DVD Player (for commercials)

Two head sets

Power strip for laptop and other portables that the use

50 foot cable from camera to mixer

extension chord

 

And there's one or two other pieces of small equipment that we use that I have no clue what they do or are used for.

 

Plus there has to be room for two people to sit in a space and also have room for a notebook or stat sheet. A 6 foot table is what we are usually given for our equipment.

 

And if he was worried about a kid being injured, maybe he should talk to Lloyd and Coach Key. They set us up literally 5 feet from the baseline, inside the sideline every year when we broadcast the LMIT and have never once had an incident. We would have actually been set BEHIND the Newport bench off to the side, where we were asking to be set up.

I'd tell you the baseline is a tricky situation. It depends on how close you are. You can't be so close that a player doesn't have time to stop before hitting the table.

The first three questions, I recommend emailing Ben Bleser and asking him.

 

I was told Ben emailed the Dayton AD on Monday. The Dayton AD said he never heard from him but if he did he didn't remember and he should've gotten a follow up email the day of the game because he "couldn't adjust at game time."

 

As far as where we would have been set up, we wouldn't have been on the baseline. Our table would have been next to the Newport bench, but behind it. So unless the player running out of bounds runs over the water cooler, we would have had no problems.

 

Again, I won't say anything bad about the Dayton AD because he was very nice to me when we spoke AFTER the crew packed up the equipment and left, but this definetly should have been avoided.

The table they allowed me to use was not in the best condition (very unstable) and was set up in the bleachers right behind the railing at the end of the visitor's bench. Every time someone tried to walk behind where I was sitting, the table would shake and IMO would not have been a good set up for broadcasting. Scott shared the same concerns with me with having that or any table on the floor anywhere. Again, not defending or condoning, but just stating the facts as we discussed them.
