In January or February, I receive a Form 1099-SA from JPMorgan Chase indicating how much money I contributed to the HSA the previous calendar year, what my distributions were, and what my balance is. I think the present limit on contributions is around $3,100 a year for an individual. I only use my HSA for approved medical expenses. The amount you contribute to the HSA comes off your adjusted gross income on your 1040.

January 8, 201412 yr ^It's more or less like charitable contributions when it comes to the tax return aspect. You can claim for 10 straight years that you donate $10,000 (whether you do or not) to your church, but if in year 11 the IRS asks you to support it, and you don't have receipts you've got a problem. Same thing is true with the distributions from the HSA. You can claim the entire amount was distributed to pay medical expenses, but if they ask you to provide receipts and you can't....
January 8, 201412 yr Always make sure you keep receipts when dealing with things to turn in for tax purposes. I would keep a folder for those and when tax season comes around, make sure they are broken up based on what they were used for (i.e. donations, healthcare, etc.).

March 3, 201412 yr Hope it works out for you. I got a couple of guys that I know who play poker for a living. They were roommates and after the younger guy graduated college he got a nice salary job, but it just wasn't for him. He now plays cards full-time just like his roomy did all thru college.
