1. Knott County Central outlasts Hazard 51-48

A game that most people thought, Knott Central would win by 10+ was the exact opposite as the Patriots would win by 3, 51-48.

 

Knott Central would win quarters 1 (17-10) and 3 (14-13)….Hazard would win quarters 2 (15-9) and 4 (13-11).

 

Knott Central was led by Camron Justice who led all scorers with 27. Hazard was led in scoring by both Josh Hollan and Chris Hudson who both had 15.

 

 

 

2. Hazard rolls past Buckhorn 74-53

In a game that many thought would be close, was the exact opposite as the Bulldogs would roll past Buckhorn 74-53 inside Memorial Gym.

 

Hazard led 22-16 after one but led 39-25 at halftime, outscoring the Wildcats 17-9 in the second quarter. Hazard would outscore Buckhorn the entire game. Hazard was led in scoring by Matt Thompson who had 22. Josh Hollan put in 20. Peyton Cooper led Buckhorn with 15

 

 

3. Buckhorn cruises past Breathitt County 75-52

Another game that was thought to be a good close game that would go down to the wire was the complete opposite.

 

Buckhorn would led by 8 (18-10) going into the second quarter and led 34-23 at halftime. The Horn wouldn’t look back as they would cruise on to a 74-52 victory.

 

Connor Hoskins led Buckhorn and all scorers with 25. Glenn Campbell led Breathitt County with 16. Braxton Whitmore added 13. Wes Noble had 5 for the Bobcats.

 

 

4. Cordia wins two in Legacy Classic at North Laurel

Coach Rhodes and his Cordia Lions last played last Saturday (Dec. 14) against Covington Holmes where they lost 61-56 so they had a week off to prepare for the Legacy Nissan Classic at North Laurel High School.

 

Cordia would open up with Covington Scott and would cruise to a 88-68 win. Cordia would move on to face South Laurel and yet again would cruise on to a 69-56 win over the Cardinals. Cordia will now face Taylor County for the Legacy Nissan Classic Championship.

 

 

5. Breathitt County’s Wes Noble drops 34 on Clay County

Breathitt County senior guard, Wes Noble poured in 34 in the win against the Clay County Tigers in a double overtime thriller in the Hyden Citizens Bank Shootout at Leslie County.

 

 

6. Estill County’s Trevor Jones drops 30 on Rockcastle County

Estill County made the haul to Rockcastle County Monday night in a boy/girl double header with the Rockets.

 

Estill County would win every quarter except the third quarter, where Rockcastle County would win it 18-14 but Estill County would make up for it winning the fourth quarter 27-20 as they would cruise on to a 72-59 victory over the Rockets.

 

Estill County junior guard Trevor Jones made his first 9 shots before missing one as he would go 10/11, 1/1 from 3 (which came in the first quarter) and 9/11 from the line as he dropped in 30 and grabbed 5 boards. Kris Dennis and Trenton Jenkins would both add 13 and grab 8 boards apiece. Corey McPhetridge would led the Rockets with 17.

Couple things of note:

 

1. Your probably wondering why I mentioned Cordia's out of region opponents, Wes Noble and Trevor Jones scoring performances against out of region teams...I haven't mentioned Cordia that much in these region notebooks so I needed to get them in here. The scoring performances are well they are really good scoring performances.

 

2. We won't have a region notebook for the 14th for this week due to everyone playing in a holiday tournament and very few, if any region games getting played.

 

3. Knott beat Cordia by 15, Knott beat Hazard by 3...Hazard also has the better record...that's why Hazard is above Cordia

 

With that said, does anyone agree/disagree?

I think it's accurate. Cordia and Hazard may switch back and forth as the season moves forward, but for right now I think your rankings are good.

Hazard's results have impressed me more than anyone else so far.

 

Any word on the exchange kids as of yet or was that just a rumor?

I haven't heard anything lately except they're still waiting on a ruling.

The same 10 teams at the top that the Cats Pause had in the summer - pretty amazing.

HDE, The Cats Pause usually does a good job with their predictions. They're never very far off.

The team that has surprised me the most is Wolfe County. The Wolves have really played some good basketball so far this season.
