In regards to the match up with SW, Lincoln does not have enough brawn down low to deal with SW bigs and do not shoot it well enough to make it into a three point contest. Taylor is not as quick as SW PG, so the SW PG will control the transition game and cause the mis matches that Lincoln cannot defend. SW also gets back well as to take away the transition break that Jeff loves. Get it into a half court game on the offensive side for Lincoln against SW and I like SW.

 

Like the above poster said, Wayne has to many scoring options so the match up stuff favors any team that has that many scoring options. Wayne is gonna be scary good by February. Better get them soon.

 

Dark horse team that could pull some upsets later in year is Casey.

 

Boyle, Lincoln and Mercer are schools that have under achieved the past few years with the talent they have had. I see nothing changing.

You REALLY need to watch Lincoln play. I disagree with each one of your points in your first paragraph. Taylor routinely beat quicker PG's than SW's in that tournament. Bullitt East's aren't slow and Doss's and Catholic's are very, very quick. Regarding 3 point shooting, how do you think they dominated Doss, who is both bigger and more athletic than SW? That's also how they led Carholic for the first 30 minutes of that game. They score in bunches in 2 ways - threes and transition buckets. By the way, they have the best pure (3 point) shooter in the region in Conley IMO. That's his role on that team and he is exceptional at it.

They've clearly separated themselves from the other teams over the past week and a half. Wayne and Lincoln, at a neutral site, would be a good one.

And what Purple Pride said - SW may have underachieved more than any team in the state last year! Mercer should've won it in 2011 with the talent they had but they haven't been at that level since. Boyle seems to consistently overachieve relative to their talent IMO. Lincoln has achieved what I would've expected given their talent.

It's also worthy of noting that all 3 of those teams will be considerably better next year than they are now.

I agree that Lincoln is clearly the #2 team in the region after what they did this past week. I had them at #3 but that was prior to me knowing they beat Doss and came close to beating Lex Cath.

12th region has shown to be a pretty strong region over the holidays. Here is where I rank them to start 2014:

1) Wayne Co.-still undefeated and still #1

2) Lincoln Co.-nice wins over Bullitt East, Doss, W. Jessamine, Mad. Central, and 2 point losses to Lex Cath and Montgomery Co

3) West Jessamine-Runner up to St. X 52-54 in the Lake Cumberland Classic beating Southwestern and Doss

4) Southwestern-Win over Rowan Co. but lost by 3 to W. Jessamine

5) Boyle Co.-no big wins thus far in their 8-4 record but close losses to Lex Cath and Bullitt East shows they can play.

6) Mercer Co.-loss to East Jessamine hurt but still competing well against teams like Doss and Lex Cath

7) Pulaski Co.-started strong with 5 straight wins but has struggled vs tougher competition.

8) Somerset-has been up and down. Strong showings vs Mad. Central and Rowan, but poor showing vs Pulaski.

9) Danville-did not play after Christmas but was Runner up to Southwestern in the Arby's classic

10T)E. Jessamine-won the Campbellsville Holiday Classic beating Lou. Holy Cross

10T)Rockcastle Co.-won 3 straight in the Pine Mountain Classic
