1. Wayne County

 

Wayne County has gotten off to a 5-0 start. With victories over Lincoln County, Southwestern and Knox Central all things seem to be going as expected in Wayne County. Preseason Top 12 player, Peyton Woods, is scoring 30ppg for Wayne County through their first four games.

 

2. West Jessamine

 

West Jessamine is off to a 4-0 start. They have victories over Fleming County, Danville and Somerset and are led by Preseason Top 12 player, Daulton Peters, who is leading West Jessamine in scoring at just about 20ppg.

 

 

3. Boyle County

 

Boyle County had gotten off to a quick 3-0 start before falling to BluegrassPreps.com #20 team, Collins, 47-36, in the Farmer's National Bank Showcase at Mercer County. Boyle has wins over Knox Central, Lexington Christian and East Jessamine and they are paced by Preseason Top 12 player, Hagen Tyler's, 24ppg.

 

 

4. Lincoln County

 

Lincoln County has a 2-3 record but has played a tough early schedule. While boasting wins over Rockcastle County and East Jessamine they have fallen to three tough teams in Russell County, Wayne County and South Oldham. Preseason Top 12 player, Jacob Conway, has been a leader for Lincoln County thus far.

 

 

5. Mercer County

 

Mercer County enjoyed a trip to the Bahamas and came back with a 2-1 record after facing teams from Colorado, Mississippi and Louisiana. Upon returning home Mercer County has defeated North Hardin and Owen County and they are now at a 4-1 record on the season. Russell Sims, Preseason Honorable Mention, has returned to action for Mercer County following a previous injury and is now providing a very solid punch to go along with Preseason Top 12 player, Will Hager.

 

 

6. Southwestern

 

Southwestern was a bit of an unknown following the departures of Isaiah Collier and David Kapinga and they haven't seemed to miss them too much just yet. Sitting at 3-1 with victories over Danville, Monroe County and Casey County it seems that the Preseason #1 Player in the 12th Region, Justin Edwards, is proving his ability to carry Southwestern and is receiving help from Dylan Gaskin and Adam Isaacs. They did lose to Wayne County but so far Southwestern appears to be ready for the challenges they face ahead.

 

 

7. Somerset

 

Somerset has stumbled out of the gate and that has been known to happen when some of your top players are still playing football. Currently 1-3, Somerset has lost to Clinton County, Rockcastle County and West Jessamine. Somerset may take a few more lumps in the recent weeks but that trend is expected to change come January.

 

 

8. East Jessamine

 

East Jessamine is sitting at 1-5 and have been led by the exploits of Ronnie Carson. He scored a school record 54 points in a loss to Anderson County and is averaging somewhere in the area of 30 points per game. Unfortunately for East Jessamine he hasn't gotten much help as their lone win is a victory over district opponent, Burgin.

 

 

9. Rockcastle County

 

Rockcastle County is sitting at 2-4 but they already have a signature win over Somerset. While they do have a losing record the win over Somerset was not only an eye opener but it was a district win that will give Rockcastle the confidence they need to compete going forward.

 

 

10. Garrard County

 

Garrard County is 2-2 and they have wins over Berea and Williamsburg. Close losses to Madison Southern and Whitley County will no doubt give the Lions experience going forward as this young team led by Austin Sebastian continues to grow and learn under Coach Dennis Pardue.

 

 

Surprise, surprise............

 

 

Preseason unknown Pulaski County has gotten off to a 4-0 start and they have wins against East Jessamine, Madison Southern, Casey County and McCreary Central. Where will they slide into the next 12th Region rankings at?

12th Region Players of the Week

 

Ronnie Carson (East Jessamine):

 

Ronnie Carson's stats have yet to be posted on the khssa/Riherds scoreboard but anyone who has been following the 12th Region is fully aware of the scoring explosion he has had since the season began. Hearing that Ronnie Carson was held to just 24 points in a loss to Boyle County should be self explanatory when it comes to the points Carson has been putting up this season.

 

 

Peyton Woods (Wayne County):

 

Peyton is scoring 30ppg through Wayne County's first 4 games and much like Ronnie Carson he has been scoring the ball extremely well to start the season. To go along with his 30 points pr game, Woods is also shooting 49% from the floor, 39% from three, 74% from the free throw line and pulling down close to 6 rebounds per game as well. As long as Wayne County continues to get production from Woods it will be an uphill battle for 12th Region teams to defeat Wayne County.

 

 

Hagen Tyler (Boyle County):

 

Hagen Tyler started off the season with games of 28 points, 27 points and then another 28 point game. A 12 point outing in a loss to Collins brought his average down to around 24 points a game but that doesn't erase his ferocious start to the season. Throw in a couple of double digit rebound games for Tyler and one can see the effect he has on Boyle County's success.

 

 

Daulton Peters (West Jessamine):

 

Daulton Peters has been the main reason for West Jessamine's undefeated start to the season. Peters is averaging 19.8 points per game, shooting 60% from the floor, 71% from the free throw line and hauling down almost 7 rebounds per game. This is the kind of production that was expected from Peters to be able to guide West Jessamine this season. He has not disappointed at the start of this campaign.

 

 

Will Hager (Mercer County):

 

While Will Hager may not be the name some would expect to see his play to date must be noted as a Mercer County sits at 4-1. Hager is scoring 17.7 points per game, shooting 56% from the floor, 38% from the three point line, hauling down about 7 rebounds per game and dishing out about 4 assists per game. Hager was expected to play one of the off guard positions for Mercer County but has handled the point for them thus far. Hager had a 26 point outing against Owen County in Mercer's overtime win against the Carson Williams led team. Expect to see and hear from this talented sophomore alot more as the season progresses.

Danville is currently 1-4 and it is of my opinion that their record doesn't truly represent their team. Their only really bad loss is to Southwestern and watching the progression of Cody Woolridge throughout the season will be worth keeping an eye on.

I have been told that senior Cam Cheuvront from Somerset is no longer a member of the team. I was told that he quit the team so he could focus on playing football at the next level.

Cheuvront is no longer playing basketball. This past week he has taken recruiting visits to Southern Illinois and Morehead St. and decided he wanted to focus on preparing to play at the next level. It's a blow to SHS basketball but they will recover and do just fine as the season progresses. From what I saw last night in Somerset's win over Casey, freshman Landon Powell and Junior Kenny Spear will take turns at the point now. Landon Powell is a name you will be hearing a lot over the next 4 years. The kid can play!

Somerset's Ryan Dishman has started the season fairly strong averaging 21 points a game. He had 24 last night against Casey.

Lincoln has really responded after Timmy Taylor's suspension.

Somerset started the season 1-3 but have turned that around to go 4-1 the last 5 games. They were very close to beating Madison Central on Saturday who gave them their only loss since the slow start while beating Estill Co., Franklin Co., and Rockcastle Co. in the Berea Invitational. Ryan Dishman scored 28pts vs Madison Central, 25pts and 21pts in the wins over Franklin Co. and Rockastle.

Lincoln has really responded after Timmy Taylor's suspension.

I did not realize Taylor had been suspended. Do you know how long he is out?
