Newport 65 Holy Cross 62

Featured Replies

Holy Cross lead the entire game, and by as much as 13, just to let their first victory slip through their fingers in the final minute of the game. Newport gets their first win of the season.

This is really gonna be a tough season for the Indians. Judging by their schedule it looks like they only have two winnable games on tap: Lloyd & Dayton. With Ludlow looking like they might have one of their better seasons, even they are not a given for Holy Cross this season. Ouch!

I see a goose egg kind of season for Holy Cross. In a couple years though watch out.

No way they do not win a game.

I think they could improve and win a couple they probably shouldnt later in the year.

I don't doubt that they can improve as the season progresses just as their opponents likely will, and I hope they do. This is not a knock at Holy Cross as I've historically delighted in their successes.

Here is the remainder of their schedule. Other than the few games I've listed (Lloyd & Dayton, and MAYBE Ludlow), and considering their obstacles of size and inexperience, do any others stick out with you as winnable?

I certainly hope that they can prove me wrong and get a statement win in here somewhere, but it's a tall order this season for sure.

It sounds like the Bezold kid is pretty good, and with their lack of size, a super hot night in 3-Land appears to be their only hope.

I expect them to remain competitive and never throw in the towel. That's never been their way, but for the first time in years I don't see a game on their schedule that is a given except for Dayton.

Go Indians!

Stand corrected...possibly they can pull a win or two out. Noticed Beechwood is not on schedule. Would love to see them play!

On paper the goose egg doesn't seem so far fetched, but as everyone knows the games are all about matchups and who is hot or off on any given night. That being said, how many of the above games would you have picked Newport to win if they played this schedule? I would say that Newport could knock off a few of those teams and from what I heard, Holy Cross gave Newport all they could handle. I really think Holy Cross will surprise a few teams and come away with some wins that paper says they shouldn't have. Watch out for Bezold, he is a gamer with a super nice stroke.

You don't have thew All-A listed......not sure who they drew. They should be playing Beechwood (NKAC Div II game).

Looked it up. They play Beechwood 2/13. They are in Lloyd tourney where if you lose you get other teams that have lost. In All-A they get winner of Newport vs Latin.

Glad you mentioned the All 'A'. I forgot all about that. It looks like they'll face Newport again, so considering they lead the whole recent game with them before losing, that's one they have a clear shot at.

Where did you find info of them having a game scheduled with Beechwood, or being in the Lloyd Invitational? I can't locate info about those two items anywhere involving Holy Cross. :idunno:

They should be Lloyd.

Agreed

. In a couple years though watch out.

Based on what? Pipeline of kids coming? CovCath has great young players on the way, Holmes is Holmes, what gives you the unbridled optimism about HC?

I can think of someone else who would enjoy that game this year. :D

Ooops... nevermind. I just noticed this information at the Holy Cross website. I typically find scheduling info at the KHSAA website which apparently is not 100% complete.

They need to gt the right group of 7th and 8th graders. They have a good shot to get them too.
