Started off slow for both teams. cooper had too many missed shots to start the game, looked like nerves. They then got it started with some impressive guard play by moving the ball. Z. McNeil and S. Holland both had solid games and we were introduced to Zach's younger brother who also got the start as a Freshman. Shawn (sp?) McNeil was very impressive and was among the team leaders in points scored. This young man will have a stellar High School career and I predict will own all of the schools offensive records by the time he graduates.

 

Walton Verona has a very good pure shooter in #24 (sorry didn't remember his name) but the kid can out right shoot the lights out.

 

Cooper's defense seemed to shut down WV when they needed to and their offense had some really nice ball movement. They may suffer a lot when they play bigger teams due to the lack of size, but their outside shooting should keep them in more than a couple games. Good start of the season.

Understanding this was the first game and understanding it was Walton who put up a very very good effort in the 1st half, the key thing to take away from this game is this. Cooper went a SOLID 11 players deep so it's depth will be the strength of this team. At one stretch in the second half they had only 2 starters in the game with one of them being the freshman McNeil. The only issue will be if their bigs get into foul trouble like they did last nite and frankly did not play anywhere near their full potential due do being on the bench.

 

Not sure how they will do the rest of the season but two things are for sure. This will be another solid defensive team (only gave up 15 points in the 2nd half) and if a player is not getting it done to Coach Sully's standard he will get replaced with no or very little drop off.

Great shooter. You know he's good when in the first 5 mins of the game the wife is yelling from the stands to "Don't let #24 shoot!" lol
