Ram, I believe if you understood how we in NKy are looked down upon by those on the other side of the Ohio River, I think you would understand.

 

My Father-in-law who I dearly loved, when I first dated his daughter, now my wife of 43 years, he indeed was, lets just say a little upset. Heck when we got married and moved to Ky. he was ticked and when we purchase our home in Oakbrook, Ky he about had a cow and that was after we were married almost 13 years.

 

As it always has been said, the Ohio River from Ky to Ohio is about 1/2 mile wide but from Ohio to Kentucky, the Ohio River is about five miles wide.

I can understand that, and don't necessarily disagree with that. But, this article was written in our area, of course, and the feelings about Kentucky/Ohio is much different here. I know, and I am not generalizing everyone, that the NKY area has a love affair with Ohio football. In our area, there is no such feeling.

 

Now, as too the article, I think the writer was giving Cov Cath a compliment, saying that the Cinci football programs are of good quality and correlating Cov Cath, Highlands, and other NKY programs in that area.

 

But, I do not understand why TD took offense to the Comment "Greater Cinci", which I believe the three counties in NKY are truly "Greater Cinci" with the infrastructure of Cinci crossing the river, i.e. the airport.

 

And, I do not understand how "Greater Cinci" is interchangeable with "Select All-Star Team". Is he saying all the Cinci schools "Select" their players?

Most people, in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky, think there is a wall, and not a bridge, between the two states.

Oh no you didn't! Have you been to Middletown? No where close to NKY. As far as a compliment, whatever. People throughout the State of KY when they visit HHS or CCH for games, they want to know why so many Ohio plates at the game. With that comes the recruiting of Ohio players comments and such. Its actually comical to listen to them talk about it. Some even egg it on. But it's called beating the tax system. So maybe there is one thing some like about Ohio.

How on earth do you get him calling Covington Catholic a select team just by him saying "Greater Cincinnati". Everyone one I know from NKY refers to themselves as living in Cincinnati. Hell, the Cincinnati Airport is in NKY.

People call our area Eastern Kentucky. Even though people in our area and Eastern Kentucky know that we are not part of Eastern Kentucky. That doesn't change the fact that people call us that.

 

And for you NKY people, you world really hate to watch the local Huntington West Virginia News channels, they call us "Northern Kentucky".

Ram, I can honestly say, that I have never lived in Greater Cincinnati and have never used the term except for using it when I say the Northern Kentucky, Cincinnati International Airport and most of the people that I know, who are native to NKy, also never use it!

 

Understand, I am quite proud to have been born, raised and have lived the vast majority of my life in Northern Kentucky and not Ohio!

We are North-Eastern Kentucky. The "Fiveco" (Greenup County, Boyd County, Carter County, Lawrence County, Eliot County) area is considered NEKY.

Funny how we draw lines. I had this discussion with Ru today. No one wants to say they're from the other side of the river. And I can't blame them. As for Aaron Snyder, his take is skewered by the repetitive drubbings of his niche, the Tomcats of Ashland, by the NKY teams. It makes it more palatable to say it the way he did. His constituents likely feel better about it if it was "greater Cincinnati" handing down the whoopin'.
