It only applies to health care professionals, insurance companies, and insurance company clearinghouses who transmit medical data electronically. There is a lot of debate about athletic trainers being a "covered entity."

Those hip injuries can be nagging and very painful. I am happy to see him back to playing and feeling good. Looking forward to watching him play over the next several years.

I guess it's always good to err on the side of caution but in no way are you restricted under HIPAA. Anyone that tells you that you are doesn't understand HIPAA.

 

But I FULLY get that the staff may not want you disclosing injury info.
