I think it has more to do with the I-275 loop. Most of the teams that are outside of the loop are now out of the ninth region.

I think that the NKAC is the tie that still binds those of us who have been farmed out to the 8th and 10th Regions and provides the nucleus of your schedule. Division II teams are only required to play their six opponents once, so it provides a nice base of Northern Kentucky teams to anchor down your schedule.

 

ALSO, scheduling isn't as easy as you all make it sound. You don't just pick up the phone (or send an E/Mail), call a school and automatically put them on your schedule. We would like to have played Holmes, Simon Kenton, Clark County, and others this year but for one reason or another were never able to get the games on paper.

 

The better you are (or are going to be) also factors into if games are going to be scheduled or not. This year we are playing St. Henry home and home. Neither of us could fill our schedules. I know we are still shopping for a "final" game for 06-07, so the NKAC provides a nice little competition base from which to work, plus it gives you an in-season goal to work for.

All the schools are in the NKAC by choice.

 

On a side note for a good period of time Covington HC dropped out of the NKAC and didn't return until football started up. At one time HC would have had to play in Div III and they didn't want to be forced to play that level of compeition.

 

So it is the schools choice to play or not.

 

I think you are right about school choice, but in order for all sports to be in the conference, I think both basketball teams must play. If the conference would allow bball and baseball the flexibility then the problem would be solved.

Exactly why a weekend one and out tournament would provide that flexibility. It would allow those teams not in the region to play more of their regional opponents or more teams from the 8th or 11th regions, which would in turn get more recognition on a statewide basis rather that the 3 county South Cincinnati paper covers.

Meaning not in the 9th region any more.
