Tecmo Bowl I

Caldwell County and Fort Campbell combined for over 1,100 yards, but Caldwell made more stops on defense in their 48-35 win over the Falcons that was delayed a day due to stormy weather.

Junior quarterback Elijah Sindlar completed 23-of-40 passes for 380 yards and six touchdowns to four different receivers. 6-foot-8 Eli Pepper caught five passes for 121 yards and three touchdowns. Dee Cain hauled in seven passes for 149 yards.

Fort Campbell got 228 rushing yards from Triston Luke, who scored on runs of 45, 67, 19, and 51 yards. The junior also caught a 30-yard touchdown pass.

Colonels pop Maroons

It was billed as a measuring stick game for Madisonville, but Henderson County made sure the stick disappeared below the surface in a 45-14 road win.

Henderson County scored 42 first quarter points, including three touchdowns in 90 seconds as they made sure the game had a running clock for the final three quarters.

Madisonville, who was held to minus-12 yards rushing in the first half, got two late garbage scores from Jaron White.

Damion Carter had 93 rushing yards for Henderson County, who scored on a short field most of the night.

Angry Birds

Mayfield’s Jake Guhy threw for five touchdowns, and the Cardinals used the big play to beat cross-town rival Graves County 49-21. It was Mayfield’s 16th win in 25 games against the Eagles.

Guhy threw a 79-yard touchdown to Deion Jackson, who also returned a kickoff 95 yards for a score. Jackson’s return came immediately after Graves County’s Joey Marshall returned a kick 94 yards for a touchdown.

Bluebirds down Blue Tornado

Tre Coleman rushed for 126 yards on eight carries, but Paducah Tilghman could not make an early lead stand up in a 42-25 loss to Class 4A #1 Highlands Saturday in Paducah.

Tilghman is off to a 1-4 start, but the four teams they’ve lost to are a combined 16-3. They will host 4-1 Henderson County Friday.

McCracken Heads

Sophomore Zyaire Hughes threw for three scores and ran for a fourth as McCracken County beat Bullitt Central 48-0 for the school’s first win over a Kentucky school.

Hughes was 8-of-12 passing for 95 yards, and Jordan Troutman rushed for 178 yards on just 11 carries.

Home of the Braves

Union County had four different rushers top 50 yards as the Braves beat Trigg County 27-7. It was Union County’s first win in Cadiz since 1967.

Bombs Away

Ballard Memorial scored six first half touchdowns to hammer Hopkins County Central 42-0. Alek Hugen rushed for 104 yards on 10 carries, and Ethan Dunning had two carries for scores of 68 and six touchdowns.

The win gives Ballard Memorial their first 5-0 start in a dozen years.

Meanwhile, Hopkins County Central has lost 20 straight games dating back to 2011.

Five Games to Watch

Henderson County at Paducah Tilghman – Both teams have played an early season gauntlet of a schedule. However, Henderson County is 4-1, while the Tornado are 1-4. Henderson fans will use this game as a measuring stick since McCracken County is their new district rival, and Tilghman beat the Mustangs by a single point last month.

PREDICTION – Henderson County 21 Paducah Tilghman 16

Ballard Memorial at Caldwell County – Two of the top scoring teams in the state square off Friday in Princeton, with both topping 49 points a game. However, Ballard’s scoring has come against teams that are a combined 4-18. Caldwell County is looking for the program’s first 6-0 start in 50 years and will be without leading rusher Jaylen Boyd, who was ejected in last week’s win over Fort Campbell for throwing a punch.

PREDICTION – Caldwell County 54 Ballard Memorial 14

McCracken County at Fort Campbell – The question in this one will be who dazzles more on offense – Falcon running back Triston Luke or Mustang quarterback Zyaire Hughes. Neither team has trouble scoring. They just have trouble stopping the other team.

PREDICTION – Fort Campbell 46 McCracken County 38

Madisonville at Owensboro – Madisonville is the Jekyl-Hyde team of western Kentucky this year. Impressive in wins over Hopkinsville and Warren Central and disastrous in losses to Central Hardin and Henderson County, the Maroons’ defense will need to be on their A-game this week. Friday will be the 71st meeting between the schools in a series that dates back to 1907. Henderson has a 49-19-2 advantage.

PREDICTION – Owensboro 35 Madisonville 14

Hopkinsville at Christian County – Christian County’s bye week came at a good time as the Colonels are now healthy and ready to battle their cross-town rivals. Hopkinsville has lost two of their last three games in overtime after starting the season 2-0. Christian County has won six straight against the Tigers and leads the all-time series 24-22.

PREDICTION – Hopkinsville 24 Christian County 21

Last Week – 3-2 (worst week of the season)

Season – 19-6

Quarterback Comparison

(Through Five Games)

Luke Guhy (Mayfield) – 78-of-117 (66.6%), 1,156 yards, 13 TDs, 3 INT, 15 rushes, (-41) yards

Elijah Sindelar (Caldwell County) – 83-of-132 (62.8%), 1,224 yards, 18 TDs, 2 INT, 24 rushes, 155 yards, 3 TD

Zyaire Hughes (McCracken County) – 68-of-110 (61.8%), 989 yards, 6 TDs, 2 INTs, 49 rushes, 135 yards, 5 TDs

Peyton Puckett (Graves County) – 67-of-109 (61.4%), 1,076 yards, 11 TDs, 4 INTs, 13 rushes, 42 yards, 1 TD

As always, really good information and very well written.

I love your western Kentucky articles, Scribe. Great job as always! :thumb:

Good job, Scribe...one thing though, Mayfield and Graves have only played 21 games....not 25 :)

Another good write-up, Scribe. I've always thought you should work in the media or something...
