Interesting question. My first thought is that it would be an independent district team because they've been around much longer than most county schools. But there are several consolidated county schools that have been playing since the 50's or 60's with little success. Most losses would certainly be a dubious record, but it is something interesting to know.

 

The other side to that is it will have to be a school who played football continuously. Like I see CLinton County in 1974 as well, but obviously they took a hiatus from football for some years.

 

 

If I am a betting man I think I am with you, that it is probably an independent like a Dayton, Paintsville, Newport etc... in fact it might not surprise me to see of the Top 20 winningest teams

also double as one of the losingest (if that is a word) teams.

Tusi..another thing that the link helped lead me to that you will find interesting is proof Belfry was playing football as far back as 1928.

Records we have go back to 1949

 

My grandfather always told me that Elbert Tye was Belfry's first football coach, and the first team was 1928. He said it took them a long time before they got a first down, lol. There is a picture of that team but I don't have it at my fingertips.

Nevermind I found it, nice catch. I hadn't seen those individual team records. That might help fill in a few pieces of the puzzle pre 1949

Yup Paintsville, Pburg, and Raceland all have some Pre-1950 Belfry scores

 

FWIW, according to those Belfry went 6-8-1 vs. Paintsville and 3-11-1 against Pburg pre-1949.

 

**EDIT** Also Louisa and Belfry played 6 times before '49 with Belfry going 1-5

 

Belfry and Van Lear played 7 times with Belfry going 3-4

Actually, I did have 1981. It was only a two-team district that year, as Somerset and Wayne were in District 1 with Boyle, Garrard and Russell.

 

1. Middlesboro (1-0, 11-0)

2. Corbin (0-1, 9-1)

 

I believe they had sub-districts that year and maybe all these teams were in the same district. At least that rings a bell.
